What absorbs grinding sparks ?

They are the ones we have. Around 50 quid a piece IIRC.
Mind, some of ours like the leather aprons. 11 quid each and last forever - manage against sparks, abrasion etc. Probably not much smaller than a proper blanket.

Weld up a louvre back panel from 50mm strips. Angle them at 45 deg. Place just before the back of the 'box', should stop most of them.
Welding sparks stick very well to SS as well

Water... ie buy a semi wet grinder.
When I run my surface grinder dry, everything nearby gets a sheen of light dust. When I run it wet with coolant, I get disgusting black slime in the end tanks on the table and round the wheelhead to clean out, but no dust on anything else...

How about copying the idea used in most Chinese takeaways?

They have a metal surface all round the cooker that has a water fall running over it. All the food splatter hits the water & gets washed away so it cant dry / get baked on. The wok burners also tend to have the same system but around the burner as well. Makes clean up super easy.

I remember "water walls" used in industrial spray booths in the 70's to catch overspray.

Most of the extraction in the foundry was through "wet filters" 8' diameter fans driven by 250Hp motors would pull air through a curtain of water. The resulting sludge was dumped in a skip where it had secondary function as a "wedding present" as anyone due to be married usually got dunked in there!

mine was only a baby then it was 50hp and I had it blowing through a swinging 'cat flap' which had water cascading down it directing the air down into the water in the sludge tank which could be lifted out with the forks and tipped. we could granulate piro with out any dust.

These are the ones that some of the lads use. Bombproof and saves the fronts of overalls, especialy when grinding at bench level.

Once the mk1 has been replaced by the mk2, after absorbing said sparks, I have been told the quality is impaired.
