Send him a note under a fictitious name telling him that you've been told he has a blasted Lambretta frame for sale and that you are desperate to find one...cash waiting! That might make him phone you?
Its probably from either India or Italy. they import scrappers by the container load. My brother bought a (1963 i think) Lambretta LI 150 for £400, now, done to original and worth £4000. Got it re registered with a historic registration. (No tax)
I suspect it's Italian, it's stamped with an IGM number. I'll have to start "losing" bits of Lambretta when they come in for blasting, I suspect the engine may be a bit tricky!
I suppose it all depends on your terms and conditions a copy of which should have been on the paperwork when you booked scooter parts in.
Years ago, a dealer crashed one of my bikes when testing it after doing some engine work, long story but we agreed a value and I was allowed to take anything from their stock as compensation. I handed over the old style documents, the ones that relied on them sending back to Swansea, years passed and I had forgotten about the little Suzuki until I got a letter from Swansea saying that a logbook had been applied for my bike, turns out I was still the registered owner.
I don't know if you can still apply for a V5 in this way, if you can they would write to the owner, if the owner does not reply you would get a log book, or you would hope that said owner would then be reminded that you have the parts.
The DVLA wouldn't tell whether or not it's been registered, or even if a V5 has been issued.
I had a similar thing when I bought a Volvo from a local garage, the V5 was still in the name of the guy they'd bought it off so on paper it appears I bought it off him, even though the garage had been running around in it themselves.
Actually I have a story along these lines.
I bid on a motorbike being sold via eBay. The condition of the sale was it had to be collected by 9.00am on the 1st January. I was the only bidder and got it for £360 which was around 10% of it's market value (Kawasaki Eliminator). I turned up at the appointed time to be greeted by a miserable woman who wasn't pleased when I gave her the money. Turned out it belonged to her ex husband who had been ordered to sell and give her the proceeds. She moaned that me collecting at 9.00 on the 1st had ruined her Hogmanay plans.
I rang the seller (ex husband) up and he was delighted she was annoyed and only got such a small amount. She'd got some sort of restraining order against him so he wasn't allowed near the house. He'd therefore put the bike on eBay to prove he's got the best price for it and even offered me another bike (Goldwing) for £500 !
OK sound like a pub type story - until you realise I've still got the bike
