Especially not if you see the price per hour quoted on advertised jobs !

With all of this you'd have to know what was included in each category and the distribution.

e.g. musicians - about £20,000. This could include everything from rock stars to church organists.

One which struck me as odd was veterinarians, £33,709. I always had the impression they were quite well-healed. I suppose it might include veterinary nurses who were always notoriously badly paid.

I don't suppose the figures include kick-backs from drugs companies.

It would be interesting to compare hourly rates rather than annual earnings.

According to the chart, I think I come under Local Gov Admin, because I am not classed as a professional person.

I receive more than Admin Post but less than the Professional, but I take the risks (as a Housing benefit Officer, knocking on doors etc and stopping benefits) which include threats and abuse?

So far this year I have had to had TB test, court fleas twice, but before anyone says get another job very easy to say but its a job I can do and I am very successful at catching people, and saving lots of money?

Trouble different areas will get a better rate then elsewhere, ie London is better than Cumbria, so you will never get a real like for like

£6.38 an hour, which is just about the minimum wage, and they work 38 weeks a year. They have a statutory holiday entitlement.

By my rough sums they do three 50 minute sessions a day, which seems about right.

Furthermore with school crossing patrols, there's not going to be a big spread of pay. The hours and rates are going to be pretty much fixed with no scope for overtime, bonuses or any other extras.

well tbh i was getting more than that when i was an apprentice

and now sitting in a nice warm/ airconed office and having my own lab to play at welding in i am on just a bit lower, for my first year. but i think next year i should get a good pay rise..

156 for me but I get more than that but I do get to work on HV and stupidly tall stuff to change red light bulbs so that will add to the bill a bit

I think the problem with welding is that it all gets thrown in the pot of 'welding' there are welders and there are 'welders'

The figure shown in the survey I was earning much more than that as a 3rd and 4th year apprentice in the mid-late 90s. Admittedly a large proportion of that was made up of overtime as it was all site based work where 60/70/80 hours a week are common place BUT the OT rate I was getting was based on the NAECI blue book rates and the normal hourly rate back then was £8 or so with time and half and double time making up most of it it's not hard to see why. I believe the blue book rate is getting on for £15-£16ph now for grade 5-6 tradesmen and that doesn't include and bonuses, living away from home allowances or travel which are also pretty common place.

Welding for a living in a run of the mill factory doing mig welding will rarely pay those hourly rates but Tig welding in a pre fab pipe shop or aerospace company won't be far away and anything on a shut down or large construction site I expect would pay those hourly rates a starter because the rates and terms and conditions are born from agreement between the unions and the engineering industry construction board.

I think you can take a lot of that with a pinch ofsalt, Engineering technicians at 32k? any in the education sytem will earn half that if they are lucky.
And boatbuilders at 29k plus? I wish! i dont know many earning half that either!

They are midwives, you would have to slash summat else off and have a bit of serious surgery, or use two bricks ( does it hurt? only if ya catch ya thumbs between the bricks!!)

26 grand is only £500 per week before tax and deductions. I'd call that an average wage for a jobbing welder. I know some get much more.
