Could somebody advise me where abouts I stand regarding putting extra seats in a van.
I recently purchased a Renault Trafic van with the intensions of adding an extra four seats in the back and ply lined+carpeted and two windows, Similar to the crew cab but no bulk head.
Although I'll need to tell the insurance company about the modifications which isnt a problem but having already Purchased a three seater off Flee Bay I've started to find after looking at various Van convertion websites that the seats they fit state "they come with a M1 crash test cert. (for your insurance company)" but only the ones that are seat & seatbelt that bolt in one unit.
Now I'm not one for cutting corners when it comes to safety so the seatbelts I'm using the original renault ones and the mountings are already there when the shell was made. The three seater however is an aftermaket one that tilts forward and removable and means they don't match up to the original mounting holes on the van floor so I intend drill my own and generally over engineer all the Mounts i.e big plates welded to the underside so the bolt don't pull through in an accident, Anyway the question I'd like to ask is how do I get hold of a certificate that tells my insurance that everything safe, will i need to get some sort of Engineers report and if so does anyone know what sort of money I can Expect to pay out,
Thanks in Advance, Dave.
