regulators

Hi all,

I'm making the switch to boc argoshield from the small 'use once' bottle that came with my mig. I understand that i need a regulator and i'm just wondering if i can use an argon regulator for argoshield? or do you need a specific regulator for each type of gas?

There are are two main types of regulators: Inert gas and CO2. The CO2 ones are rated for a lower pressure and have a different fitting.

An "argon" regulator will work with Ar/CO2, Ar/He, Ar/O2 or Ar/CO2/O2 mixes as they are all inert gases (O2 is not quite inert, but is a very small quantity.)

Hi,

I think the price difference is due to quality. I'm no expert but i expect that style of flow gauge to be cheaper to make and inherently less accurate. it seemed to be popular among the cheap chinese ones i was looking at just a couple days ago.

After reading a thread here on the site about not skimping out on a regulator (e.g buying cheap chinese ones) with some convincing evidence (garage blowing up etc) i ended up buying a unimig regulator made in australia. Check them out. Mine was new for $90 kiwi but that wasn't from a retail outlet.

If you do go for a chinese one make sure its tested and meets the industy specs.

$104 AU is around 46gbp so not a bad price for that twin gauge one. Have you looked at this one?

Yeah that looks good, but is it only for Argon? I need a regulator for Argon/CO2. Sent the seller a question anyway

Argon regs are exactly the same are Argon/CO2 regs you know. See Shenion's post earier on in this thread.
