I get quite a variety of jobs come through my place,
Heres a sump pan from a dragcar,
to be more precise from methanol funnycar that makes i'm guessing somewhere around 3000 horsepower?
at this level when stuff goes bang its a big mess,
I've got the job of trying to salvage a $1000 sump where 2 conrods tried for a sharp exit,
Sort of looks like a shotgun went off in there?
Heres the area to cutout.
And trim out all wrecked panels from inside,
a bit easier to staighten the side rails now.
Being about an inch x 3/8" they're gonna take some bashing!
Now to start welding, plenty of build up reqd to level up the inside faces which will need dressing up later,
got the pan rails pretty straight but still multiple passes of weld reqd to dress back true to get a good gasket seal to the block,
this 'little' bit of build up took 7 filler rods,
also made a new windage tray to replace the one that looks like its had a bowling ball dropped on it but forgot to take a pic of it,
not a bad start for one evenings work,
hopefully have the job finished tomorrow?
