Does anyone know what the material is called that is used to cover weight benches in professional gyms-the stuff that is really firm and does not sink in. Is it some sort of rubber material?
do you mean to cover the actual metal? or to cover the seat?
for the metal I have used neoprene as mentioned above, for the seat I used high density foam on a bit of plywood with leather wrapped over it and stapled to the plywood underneath
I mean the padded parts i.e seats. The foam type material that goes next to the plywood. I will be covering the finished job with basic vinyl material.
The edges of the plywood dig in to my arms at the moment. I`ll phone around and look online now that I have the name of the correct material-high density foam
Company near me used/made/supplied [I have no idea which] Plasterzote, they are in the Holmethorpe estate in redhill, Kewell Converters Ltd[?]. I used to use it for pads on bike seat unit's. We started using it after a nurse gave me a piece of it to glue to a seat unit, she moaned about sitting on a painted glass panel;-) The nurse got it from work, they used it for something to do with splint making I think, something like they wrapped you arm in it and stuck it in an oven and it goes hard; ok maybe not;-) It's pretty high density.
