Quick update. I've now got all the fingers separated, re-bushed one side, and given the whole thing a 'coat of looking at' and a good greasing. I tried it with a small peice of 3mm and it managed OK although I'll only be using 2mm or thinner in future.

Quite please now as it has cost me less than £100 all in.

We had a machine like that at a place I worked a long time ago, pretty sure its maximum capacity in ms is 1.5mm, or 16swg, I made special fingers for it by machining a length of bright bar to shape, then cutting it up in the bandsaw to the finger widths required. good sturdy little machine and well worth spending a bit of time and money restoring it.

I have one of those benders and it has max capacity 16swg on a plate in the right hand corner

I've just negotiated for a length of press brake tooling that I should be able to make fit...I had a message from Welderpaul that gave me the idea to look for a piece....thanks Paul....not sure what happened to his message? A couple of mine disappeared into the ether of late too!!!
I have to bend 2mm but, because I can 'slot' it first in the CNC, the Edwards should bend it easily. I just made a chassis for my segway build and slotted it so much I got a perfect 90 degree bend by hand!! If I can slot it less then I shouldn't have to weld it up again:-))

From memory you can adjust the clamping pressure at the cam or linkage, more isn't better just need enough to grip the metal gauge being bent. The removable bar on the front of the bending apron is for closely nested reverse bends. Bend quality goes down and force needed goes up i.e. if you don't the clearance then doing the opposite and replacing it with an extension piece reduces forces a little. Yes, not sure what happened there.
It is working the press brake tooling in the wrong direction from which it is designed to work but if you are only bending thin stuff it should work if you can find something with the correct geometry.

I picked up the press brake tooling yesterday and spent a few hours adapting it to fit the Edwards. Had to weld a piece underneath to give me a better angle and a couple of side pieces to bolt it down.....plus the top bolts still work as well. It's fully removeable. Only 500mm long but now the machine seems to work very well, and I still have the fingers if I need to make a box
