thinking of getting a new tig plant and spotted these two very different choices on ebay:

The first one is incomplete but if you are willing to take a chance on it and can get it at the right price then it's possibly worth a look. The second one looks a great bit of kit, the listing says it's 3 phase but according to the manual it's single phase. It's also a much newer machine by the look of it and has all the bits and pieces you need.

does the plate on the back of the 2nd one also show it's a single phase with the '1' and a 'squiggle' plus the current at 220v input? Or amd I mis-reading it?

I'm trying to get up to speed with reading these plates...there may be a time when I need to assess what a machine can do!

Yes Peter it does! According to the manual if you run it on a 415v supply it uses two of the phases. My Miller is the same, I just move a jumper to change the voltage. The only drawback is the input current requirement will be huge on 230v, my miller wants 103A to run it at full whack!!!

That "squiggle" is a sine wave symbol referring to "power cycles"

78A maximum input current at 220v so nowhere near as much as my Miller. Jackbauer, you may have inadvertantly generated some extra interest in that machine, quite a hefty starting price but looks like a nice machine.

well to be honest i doubt i'll be putting a bid on the murex this close to christmass. too many bills to pay . anyone know if the egr300 set is ac/dc? have asked the seller but he's not sure.

Ask him to email you a better pic of the front panel controls and also a close-up one of the data plate on the back. That should tell you all you need to know.
