hi,
can anyone recommened a impact wrench.

I bought one of these, because it got good reviews, the fiirst one that arrived the display did not work and smoke belowed out the back.
recived a repalcement..what a pile of poo..wouldnt undo a wheel nut.

Is it too much to ask, I think they should relase wheel nuts or am I wrong

I am started to get secpitcal about reviews now.. is just the people thatsell them would write the reviews to sell them....

So...looking for a impact wrench

Only DIy use , rare occasions

only have a small compressor.. some people say that you need a biig compressor for them to work correctly.

Did look at the cordless versions but wondering if the batteries will die if not used often enough.

any ideas..??

A friend of mine found a similar one but a lot older in his dad's garage and it just spun with no effect, more of a drill than a wrench. I took it to bits and oiled it and it worked well after that. His was more like this one. They don't work like the air powered ones more of a flywheel effect when they get up to speed.

If I have tight nuts I change my underpants Ha !
But seriously an air powered gun is usually best even with a small compressor as long as it goes to at least 8bar it will usually work, to crack wheel nuts, that will run off easily once cracked. It will sit for years and not deteriate.
If I am out I have a VERY small suitcase compressor, that I connect to a gas cyl as a resevoir and use my 3/4 gun off it for crank pulley bolts if very tight.
Good cordless guns are VERY expensive and the batteries deteriate very quickly my makita is the exception it has a seperate battery pack and a small gun, the battery has lasted 30 YEARS and still lasts all day
and at one point I lost it for 3yrs in a filing cabinet charged it and it is still going now it is not that powerful but will undo wheel bolts that have been torqued properly to 100nm

Buy the Clarke corded one. Got one. Thrashed it. Not managed to break it and it works a treat.

UT or Ingersol rand are realy good for impact ones they are built to last we have a UT one at work that will undo nuts from 2" UNC torqued to 2600 ft/lb

Think I'll go for a air one next...but the reviews in screfix and tolststion arnt very good.

I'm that fool that keeps doing the "buy cheap buy twice" I won't learn....lol

Looked at the used snap on on eBay .they are going for silly money.

Just want a mid range unit that does the job.

UT or Ingersol Rand thats what all the big players in heavy industry use, they make lighter models for mechanics too

I have the 36volt dewalt impact gun, came with to lion batteries as well. I stand to be corrected but I think it runs at either 400 nm or 450 nm

It's a cracking gun no pun intended

I have a Chicago Pneumatic, nice gun. Also use UT air tools, good gear IMO but not cheap .

Any of the big names for air will be good to go. A mate has a Clarke Battery jobby and it's the mutts nuts. (Don't bother with their air range, I have one and it's pants)

high torque gun

if you want one for wheel nuts you need high torque ones with 450nm torque even with that sometimes you need to crack the nuts first

I have A CP gun and sometimes on it still struggles. nothing like a long slow detorqure (breaker bar with a scaff pole on the end)!!!

I have the machine mart corded and its very good....and you don't need to run a noisy compressor. ..but its huge... I have couple of air wrenches as well but they are cheap single hammer jobs , definitely worth investing in a twin hammer if you buy pneumatics. ..

The air one I have has never been very good, we had a dewalt corded one at work which was brilliant, so I bought one of those. It will do wheel nuts and alternator pulley nuts just by holding the pulley with your hand. Brilliant bit of kit.

When I was mucking about with agricultural kit, I had a 3/8 snap on and a 1/2" CP. The 3/8 had way more guts than the cp. If that wouldn't crack it, my mate had a 1/2" IR that would tear anything apart. All of them were oiled daily.

I got a 110v makita 1/2 impact wrench and very happy with it. I know welderpaul runs makita and rates them but is slowly replacing with hilti as they die

That's what kills them for sure. I did try those in line oilers but they used way too much oil. However my Sengar has a built in oiler and I never let that run out, as would be very expensive to replace
