turning bright steel

been looking on normal steel suppliers site and they only list hex-bar in bright steel.
is it easy to turn?
want it to make some clamp adaptors so will be threading each end with ifferent threads and hex in between as bolt

Turn easily - yes indeed, get a nice finish - not so easy!

I've used bright hex bar to make some steering rack adaptors with internal threads cut into the hex and it worked well.

Not necessarily hard to get a nice finish. It won't just be mild steel. More like EN3B which is cheap and horrible to turn. Get some nice freecutting EN1A leaded if you don't need to weld it. Matched with carbide tooling and plenty of revs can get you a lovely finish.

I've never had any problems turning BMS, although it would be easier to make it in round and bore out a nut and plug weld in place wouldn't it ?
