TV prog about unrideable F1 bikes.

I dont have a telly.
I was in the pub tonight and in the background was a programme about the golden days of F1 bikes, late 80's to mid 90's? when only about five people could master them.
Terrifying stuff to watch. I cant remember which channel it was.
I'm sure I saw a post here about it but cant find it now.
Is there a way of watching it online?
I remember the beauty and fury of it in those days, terrifying to watch.
These days they may go faster (do they) but the audience dont scream.
A blokey hour of cider and terror would be damn fine.

Mick Doohan raced during that era, and he busted his right leg so bad, he added a rear brake lever under the clutch for dragging the brake in corners. He developed a muscle in his forearm which in normal people was tiny into something quite substantial.

I sat on Wayne Gardner's GP championship winning bike, when it was stored in the car park of the NZ High Commission. It was a prop in the sports bar upstairs. My crotch has never been so happy.

I caught a bit of it; it certainly makes modern MotoGP look like kids' stuff. Those chaps and the earlier eras of Sheen, Hailwood and Agostini were equipped with balls of steel.

I can't imagine the power curve on those machines. I've ridden CR500s and owned a Maico 490 when I was 16. And both were mental, but on a dirt track with a 1/3 of the power, they don't come close.

I was doing machine recovery at Oulton Park the day Mike Hailwood set the fastest ever bike lap recorded on the 250cc Honda 6 RC161/6? he lapped everybody bar himself!! this was on skinny treaded tyres of the day not slicks, and drum brakes. This record stood as the OVERALL lap record for many years untill those guys came to Oulton and they could not believe the time he set, but that was because
(1) HIM
(2) the bike WAS RIDEABLE.
and goes to show power isnt everything.
But the man was incredibly talented and the sound of that bike with 6meggers on full chat AWESOME! if you can find it on U tube have a listen

That guy was not doing it justice I think he was only reving it to 14-15k ish it used to red line at 18k, I have sat on a few in the back of tranny vans, we sat astride them and 'rode' them to save roping and damaging them whilst my old man drove like a nutter round the track back to the pits. All the new Superbike and GP riders used to come and sit in with us to learn the track before going out in practice. have met and chatted to most of them years ago when they where in with us.

This is the best suggestion I've read all year! Given those teenyweeny multis had power bands of perhaps 1000 rpm at most, they needed all the gears they could get! I think they were up to 7 and 8 speed boxes by the time the strokers overwhelmed them on the grid.

I picked him up after an off at Cascades (Oulton) where he had gone off road then dropped it, the bike spun and dug in and FILLED the fairin with soil it weighed a ton! I said to him thought you guys where good off road to which he replied in his drawl "YEH,I AM but I didnt have my KNOBBLEYS ON" !!

Also no cylinder heads and a standard looking lucas starter that fitted the other end of the engine so turned the other direction
Ask me how I know! I had the job of trying to get it to run! after somebody fitted the new starter, Funny that exhaust fumes coming out of the inlet!Took me a bit of finding that as an apprentice.

mate used to work for Wallace Arnold he used to put diffs in on his own he was a skinny lad tall but strong other fitters used to watch him how do you do that long gone now

im not into motorbikes, but lucky enough to own a ts3 in a commer truck, ive also got a detroit 6v53n im slowly rebuilding..... the ts3 is an impressive bit of engineering. two stroke diesel, love it.
