What printers use the cheapest cartridges ?

I have fallen into the printer trap and bought the cheapest one in the shop (hp1360) , trouble is it uses the most expensive cartridges, the sisters kids go on the computer and print everything they see on cbbc or whatever. What printer uses the cheapest cartridges ? I have tried the refill kits but they are messy fiddly and aren't worth the hastle imho.

I always use Epsom printers and then get refillable cartridges or a CISS (Continous Ink Supply System) Saves tons of cash :-)

I discovered that the HP printers don't seem to be happy with anything other than genuine replacement cartridges.

I've tried refillable and 'compatible' ones in my A3-size HP and neither have suited the printer... I just watch eBay and buy genuine HP ones now.

Never had any problems with the cheaper cartridges in my previous Epson printer.

Epson printers IME, or at least the cheaper ones, are prone to the heads drying up. Ikjets are generally prone to this if not used regularily but the Epson ones seem to be worse. For a cheap printer I would recommend the hp ones.

We had the same problem.....everywhere we looked there was Charlie and Lola flutterby pictures, and colour in numberjacks.
Modified the default printer settings to print to file, so they could save/print, then allow them a set amount of prints each day.
Be strict

We use a HP printer, and have had no problems with remanufactured cartridges, except when we tried them in the proper dedicated photo printer.

Epsom without a doubt, HP have always been cheap on the printer as they get it back ten fold on the consumables, clever marketing

Had my Epson for a couple of years now with no problems, it's an R200 and I use these cartridges:

Have only ever had one cartridge that was faulty and sometimes the printer does not get used for a month, never seems to cause a problem drying out..which my earlier epson did once.

Printers

Thats a nice link or Epsom cartridges, Never had a problem with copy cartridges, third epsom printer, even have the chip resetter and refilled my own but cheap copy cartridges make filling your own not worth refilling, if you want cheap go for a laser --Plain Black, thousands of pages off a cartridge, and windows will cope with 2 printers with out problem, choice of default printer or option to change any time you want, and drop down box to print to different machine, easy peasy.

Laser printers work out cheapest in the long run. OK, so they're monochrome, but there's none of that wasteful printhead priming going on which seems to get through ink like there's no tomorrow!!

Colour lasers are quite common now.

I have a Samsung ML 1520 mono laser, great little printer.

I liked my Epson inkjet, but had problems with the ink drying.

I haven't seen a Lexmark yet that feeds paper properly.

I've had 4 Epson printers over the years as unbranded cartridges for them are some of the cheapest. Problem is blocked print heads so this time have bought a Kodak and only use genuine cartridges as they are very reasonably priced. It you print mainly B&W check out a cheap laser printer as sometimes the whole machine can be bought for just a little more than a replacement toner. Argos often have them on offer and I've seen them for under £50.

I use an HP with the refill kits from tesco (£6 I think) - utter bargain, I get probably 10 refills out of a kit, that's 60p per ink cartridge, I never get messy, it works every time - what's not to like?! Cheap as chips - happy to print out anything I like on a whim now and not worry!

If the kids are quite young then set printer to draft (quick print) and print grey scale then get BIG box of crayons and let them get on with colouring in! much more entertaining

Yeah..Have tried a few brands and it beats the lot, really good colour prints..the price amazes me too but it arrives and works

I found cartridges direct from Epson were the cheapest for my Stylus Photo 950 when I used to buy them. The cartridges in new printers often have a smaller quantity of ink in them, especially the ones on offer!

Yeah, They call them 'setup' cartridges as printed on the top of the ones included with the printer. Then a little leaflet saying buy their 'XL' ones and save the Environment! Epson BTW

Thanks for the replies , i think part of the problem maybe the jets clogging up, i did refill the cartridges a while ago and when i attempted to print something it appeared the cartridges were empty. How are they unclogged ?
