what fluid for parts washer

Hi all, just ordered a cheap parts washer off ebay. I was thinking of using parrafin as cleanjng fluid but is there anything better?

I have been musing on POR Marine Clean. Can't see why it wouldn't do the job.

I'd think regular degreaser would be cheap enough so long as you bulk buy it?

Kerosene. Paraffin is more refined and overkill (read over-expense).
My local heating oil supplier does kerosene in 20L 'Emergency containers', ring around your local heating oil suppliers.

Works really well, and doesn't evaporate that quickly. I use it with brake cleaner for completey oil free parts. ie. Get the dirt/oil off with kerosene then spray brake cleaner on and dry.

ive just got a stainless sink to make one. i was going to try traffic film remover for steamcleaners its about 18 quid for 5 gallons. used neat it softens paint so its cheap enough to try

I bought some water based stuff recently to clean up an engine, it works better than I thought it would but needs to be warm. I haven't used any solvent based ones apart from the things like paraffin, petrol etc.

Me too, I used a plastic tank as a test but I wasn't able to keep the solution hot - the plan now is to use a sink above a tank with an immersion heater in it, just need to rig up a circulation pump and filter.

I've been using Jizer bought in a 20l drum for my parts washer for a few years now and brake cleaner for total degreasing afterwards if needed. Jizer washes off nicely with hot water too.

Me too, I used a plastic tank as a test but I wasn't able to keep the solution hot - the plan now is to use a sink above a tank with an immersion heater in it, just need to rig up a circulation pump and filter.

I used to use a 205 ltr plastic barrel with the top cut off and a immersion heater element in the bottom with some weld over it, then dilute tfr and a 24-36 hour soak for really stubborn stuff. In the end I wrapped it up to keep the heat in with kingspan offcuts, if you keep the water hot (80-90'c) the parts dont rust I found as it knocks the dissolved oxygen out.

Worked well on engine blocks ect and old wheels ect, came out spotless with a quick rinse.

Now I just use kerosene for cleaning as I dont have that much to do.
