0.6mm wire with 0.8mm tip

when my mig was new it came fitted with a 1.2mm tig but the machine only takes .6 and .8mm wire,
must have gone through quality control on friday afternoon,
still worked ok with the 1.2 tip till i got the right ones.

the wire can wander around a bit as it feeds out

The 0.6 tip will make a much better connection with the 0.6 wire, and will therefore produce a better weld. It's ok if that's all you have but best to use the right parts.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. Will get myself some 0.6mm tips. Only wondering as I used a 0.8mm tip on .6 wire the last day and was just wondering about the negative affects. Cheers

The general rule of thumb is use the correct tip for the wire size but the next size up will often do if you're stuck.
Obviously, the next size down doesn't work too well.

Although you can get a Helix contact tip where the bore is actually smaller than the wire!
