Cutting a mitre on a pipe

I have a project

It involves cutting a 47kg propane cylinder at 45degrees, then welding it back together so the two parts are in an "L" shape.

I'm struggling to work out how to mark the cylinder.

Actually, "struggling" is the wrong word - I am familiar with the technique of projecting the cut onto an "unrolled" cylinder on paper

Is there a different way?

Yep.....its easy, takes about 2 seconds..............



Put in the diameters, wall thickness, angle of joint, offset and then press "print"

A 47kg propane cylinder will probably fit in our saw...set blade to 45 degrees, dead easy.

Thats a BIG saw, any pics, my bandsaw will only expand to about 10"

Don't think i have any pics. The jaws open out to just short of 600mm.

I'll almost certainly take you up on the offer.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) the project has to go on the back burner for the next couple of weeks.

I bought, sight unseen, the contents of a "20ft container workshop" for £250.

I now have two table saws, two mortising machines, a vertical bandsaw, a jointer, a planer, a drill press, 50L compressor, a spindle moulder and about 30 crates of hand tools and hardware filling my shed - so I can't "work" until it's all sold.

No, didn't come with the container - wish it had, cos I've got room for a container in my garden.
As to threads on the "sale" forum, there's only a small (rubbish - 150w) bench grinder and the compressor (which I'm keeping) which would be "on topic" on here.
