Any info on old compressor

Agreed I used to live next to RAF sealand, WW2 airfield and most of the raf gear was blue
that was lying around.
Have you worked out how it unloads?

Once again i have had fun due to the size of it.
I had it sat in the front of my garage and wanted to get it out the back upto my workshop. wheel base of compressor 30inches opening on back garage door
27inchs so i have taken the engine and pump off of the base so i could get it through. It shouls help in the long run anyhow. i have taken a few pics of the tyre inflator handle and where the air come out the tank.

Hi i did wonder about the tyre inflator as it looks more like the ones you find at a supermarket tyre pump.
Yes the pressure tap still works and has been left open.
looking at the engine on the back there is the drive pully for the pump which has a sort of slip diff type thing if that makes scence so i possibly gets to pressure then starts to free wheel untill it drops pressure but i could be wrong.

Yes from what i can find its the villiers engine refrence as the ml 25c seems to be 2 stroke and the mk25 is four stroke

Sounds right. Admiralty stuff generally had either the arrow else a crown imprinted/printed on them somewhere. Not sure if they still use the same marks these days?

Any chance of a photo of that clutch pulley? Sounds a novel approach to the drive issue. Is there a release/relief valve somewhere on it? Usually a brass bodied cylinder around 2" or so in length, with some type of adjuster nut on the top.

The only outlet i can see is where the tap is.
Ill pop up shed in a moment and get a picture of engine now its off the tank.

Arrow 1 shows where the V-belt attaches

arrow 2 the out spins freely and inner is connected to the engine.

as mine seems to be 4 stroke and would that be 4 star or unleaded

Once i have cleaned and repaired the engine ill need to repaint it any idea if theres a standard code number or name for the old RAF blue?

it would have been 2 star leaded so for the small amount of running just use unleaded you may find more info on the lawnmower forums that engine was used in lots of mowers small plant etc since 1941

The main difference is that two stroke engines have the lubrication oil added to the fuel, four strokes have the lubrication oil in a sump. Both would have used leaded, 4 star, fuel.

Google "pool petrol". This was the petrol available during WWII, I doubt whether it was up to 4 star standard

pool petrol was at 1943/44 at worst 67 octane not much better than paraffin
lots of problems with UK vehicles in France their petrol octane rating was 80 so lots of engine problems

The rev and go clutch is for starting, so that when pull starting you are not turning the compressor, until the engine starts and achieves enough power and revs to start compressing I doubt it has anything to do with unloading the compressor, when it is up to normal operating speed, that must be done by some form of air control pressure unloader.

About the pressure, you would be supprised at how high some a/c tyres run.
If you think of a Lanc carrying a 10 ton bomb resting on just two tyres.....

Also, about unloading and that centrifugal clutch,I am with Norm, if blowing up tyres, it would only need a PRV as it would under supervision.

And the broard arrow: Bloke from my school went up to the MOD for an interview. Proudly showed us some bog paper he had nicked from the loo.
