Miller mpi220p

Following on from my previous thread, anyone got a Miller mpi220p? mid Wales welder rates them, just like to get more feedback.
Not cheap at £1400 inc vat, but is the extra out over the Esab caddy 200i at about £850 is worth it. It does offer stick welding, so that is a bonus and will save having 2 machines on the van. I also believe that Lincoln do a 180 or 200 inverter that is dual voltage, any info on these?

Quick note, The miller is a bit more expensive but i think thats more because the caddy is just a mig welder. The miller is mig, pulsed mig, flux cored, stick and tig. We havnt got the tig tourch for it yet so not sure what thats like, its got upslope/downslope, pre and post flow. The only thing is i cant see any gas connection for tig, so guessing its a dial on the tourch jobby!
If anyone knows any differant then please let me know.

I've had my eye on a Kemppi Minarcmig 200 for ages and have just been saving until I get round to buying one, but hearing that there have been poor reviews puts me off slightly. Reading up on the miller puts it on top spot for me now as it has pulse mig function, something I'd use a lot on my ally machine repairs. More money than the Kemppi but when I have the cash together I'm definitely going to test one out

I have been quoted £1400 inc Mig torch, so yes expensive but maybe worth it.

My problem is It HAS to be able to run off my Mosa 6kva genny, and yesterday I was told by Wasp welding supplies that a 7-7.5kva would be needed to run the Miller, but the Caddy 200i will be ok with 6kva..any views/ experiences? I need to make a decision next week...it's driving me to distraction...and the pub!
It looks like only the Miller or the Esab are in the frame at the moment... unless anyone want to throw another machine in the pot?

Could you not just change you genny? I know there not cheap but how much more would you have to out down if you sold yours?

first of all you are comparing apples and oranges the Esab and kemppi are straigt mig/mag welders the Miller is a multi process machine. A mate has used the kemppi with 1mm metalcored and doubleshielded fluxcore without any problem with the doubleshield he ran 192amps without it cutting out. So if you gonna compare the Miller with something take the Ewm picomig which is also a multiprocess machine
The new ones even hold a full size spool of wire, but then more money. There is a big difference between the non pulsed and pulsed process regarding heatinput.

there was a debate here recentlly whether a machine without HF tig is really multiprocess
the miller doesnt,or pre/post flow.seems a bit less appealing then

Changing the genny is not an option, as the one I have now takes up quiet a bit of room in the van, also the cost is too high.

I think I will go with the Caddy 200i, the views on here seem to rate it and it will run of the genny, and I have been talking with my local supplier in Dartford and they have been excellent and will even deliver it to my workshop and do a test and set up free of charge, that's what I call service!...am I allowed to mention their name?

This is my point as to why it is worth the extra money!
Desertrat i'm not not sure how it will run on a genny, it may run on a 6Kva but not up to full power, but dont quote me on that. I'm also fairly sure the genny would need to have AVR (don't know if yours does or not). It all just comes down to what sort of work your doing and what welder you need! I hope you manage to find what your looking for.

Yes i was reading that thread the other day, interesting debate! I tend to be on the side that says its not a true multi process if it doesnt have a HF start for tig at the very least. I supose that multi is just more thatn one so in a sence it is a multi process, but then so is every tig welder lol.

The thing that i dont get with the miller is that when you select the process it says 'tig mode' but the only things it gives you is up/downslope and pre/post flow, so not much at all! Its basically no better than useing a scratch tig tourch with a seperate gas feed on any DC stick welder!
