Thread repair kits.

...or would it just be the same quality as the ones on ebay for a few quid cheaper? Any links to a kit would be handy...around the £40-50 mark.

Will probably only use M8/10/12, was gonna get the individual sizes from MM but the kit was only a couple of £'s dearer and though i might aswell have it for the other sizes.

Time-sert is too expensive for the amount of time i'd need/use it tbh.

Looks like a Vcoil kit. I have several and they are OK. 60 quid
for five kits sounds good.
I have paid around 20 quid a kit for the ones I bought locally.
I didn't go out and buy them in anticipation[tempting fate] of
needing them, they are on the shelf items so I went and got
them when I needed to.

Worth noting thread repair inserts are a square profile so a M8x1 thread is an insert M9x1. And a M10x1.17 would need M11X1.75 tap.

Therefore a lot of the common threads just use the next size up. So all you need to buy are the inserts.

For the odd balls such as M11x1.75 Tracy tools is a good place to buy cheap taps

The tapping drill of 6.3mm points to the tap being ~7.3mmx1mm tap.
I buy just taps when I see spiral point/flute or fluteless taps for sale, like shoxdr says you only need the tap and some inserts.

I have an identical set to the Clarke from another supplier*, the inserts in mine are not the greatest quality and a couple of times I have had to try 3 or 4 inserts to get one that will screw in properly and snap the tang off. Using original Helicoils in the past I did not have this problem and the tang broke off easily so I suspect the inserts are a bit soft. The insertion tools are certainly not toughened and a couple have wedged in the insert as they were oversize and needed skimming to fit. I paid around £40 or so for my set so I wasn't expecting Helicoil quality!

I have some of the original Armstrong helicoil kits, the Vcoil stuff seems just as good I have no idea about Clarke or Draper. When I buy inserts I am usually buying Armstrong inserts, that's what the local tool shop sells. You do see Vcoil taps on ebay, add a pack of inserts and it's probably no cheaper than the kit you linked to, it is cheaper than paying 20 quid for a kit.

Arrrghh...helicoil, v-coil, recoil, cheaper stuff. Cant decide what to go for. I think, a cheaper set like this...and i can replace the inserts with better ones as they get used, but the tap and drill will be cheaper quality aswell i'd assume. Recoil kits any good?...linky.
