Ryobi cordless grinders

I have a ryobi 0ne drill and therefore (lion)batteries and charger,I've seen the naked grinders for less than £40 any real world experience with these?

Not thinking of working it hard but could be useful in a scrap yard or if I ever get clamped

So unless there is a £40 alternative to buying just the bare grinder and using my batteries I would pass,do they run fast enough and long enough to do any real work?

Can't comment on Ryobi, but used an 18V Dewalt a few times, they're OK for small/short cuts e.g. flat, round, small pipes etc. but struggled to finish cutting 100x40x3 SHS into 3 lengths.

As above, I have an 18v Dewalt one and I use it all the time.

If you use thin cutting discs then it's ok for cutting. Useful for cleaning up before welding.

They do eat batteries but if you 3-4 batteries then you can achieve quite a lot.

Don't be under any illusion that they'll run for 30mins, they won't.

If you already have batteries then they a useful addition.

I've got one, tried it out grinding steel but was disappointed as too slow (could be my old ni-cad batteries) used it ok with a flap disc for light cleaning

I have one to be honest not the best light cleaning ok but as for cutting loads no I tried to cut a small section out of a van side I used 2 charged batteries and give up

Not so, they're great for cutting seized 25/30mm pivot pins at work, you need a good supply of batteries (3 min), wouldn't be without mine now....along with my drill and impact wrench...

Plus a 12v/240v inverter to plug the charger into...

its pointless when u have a 240 and a 110 supply i ,use drills every day the maximum drill size i ever use in masonary with them is 6mm and thats in soft bricks otherwise its 110v sds , havent got time to prat about changing batteries

What about a leisure battery, inverter and £9.99 supermarket special angle grinder ? I used to have a cordless grinder but as others have said they only work for a few minutes. Great if all you want to do is cut a bolt off but PIA if battery dies half way through and you have to then drag out extention lead to mains grinder can finish off the job. Same with Dremel - I've got corded and cordless. The corded wins hands down every time (and will run off inverter). Away from home just as easy to have a cheap Chinese £49 generator as a decent cordless angle grinder with several spare batteries.

Got a battery one to run off the Makita Lxt battery system used mainly for cutting tile and stone

When in use the grinder can't be run as hard as a corded equivalent but the convenience of just opening the box and cutting rather than having to go off and find a 240 supply and get the leads sorted etc.

Cordless grinders are fantastic for portable just need to cut or grind that. Have one at work between three of us and were in process of ordering second as its always being used! You do need a few battery's but as we all have a 18v makita with two battery's and the grinders has two battery's have never run out. I used it a fair bit when replacing some mast lights on 700ft tower as its difficult to get 110v up there

Can't you use 230V at the base and volt drop will give you 110V at 700 feet

Still got to drag the lead up! I only ever get up a couple of masts in Cumbria mostly but if the need arose could go other places

Anyway....... ......think I will pass on the cordless grinder ,I have a generator,which i can chuck in the van if need be .

It appears whist not completely useless,for any real work I would need more than the the 2 batteries that came with the drill,and I have managed 45 years without one ,
