what does it feel like to have arc eye. i saw the arc a couple of times and now have a sore head after that

No, it's very painful, prickly sensation in the eyes and like you've looked at the sun directly except it lasts ages.

err u get more than a sore head tacking a few welds up squinting . a few hours later u go to bed and your eyes are sore and streaming the whites of your eyes are bright red and feels like somones thrown sand in them for 24 hours .learnt the hard way . just once is enough

Arc eye don't normally kick in approx six to eight hours after initial flash. Can be like sand in your eyes, with eyes streaming, if one eye gets hit, you get into pictures for half price.............

I had a helmet once, that didn't seem to function properly, and although it never actually gave me arc-eye, it gave your eyes a sort of dull ache, within the first few minutes of starting welding, and lasted a few hours afterwards.
I changed to another one, and all the problems disappeared!

Oh no, you've got the more severe version.....arc head!
The only known cure is bed rest, cider and 24 hour nursing and it's so deadly there has to be two nurses!

Arc eye can happen fairly quickly though a couple of flashes shouldn't really cause it. Do your eyes feel sore or do you just have a headache?

You don't have to look at arc, it can get you get hit by just walking by weld area with gap in weld screen...........

Wozzzzzzzzz, you forgot to add, you can apply for a dog with funny leash, plus a white stick to tap away at pavement till peepers get better

As Brightspark says, eye pain won't kick in until bedtime, Feels like somebody has poured a hand full of sand into each eye.If it gets really bad you can go to out patients at the hospital, and they have anaesthetic drops, takes the pain away like magic but does not last vey long, Ask me how I know!!!!

my youngster saw me with red eyes and thought i was a monster poor little sod went crying and hid from me another time i was injected with dye at the hospital and skin went green she thought id turned in to the hulk and ran howling again

Use ye olde cold tea trick unless it's realy bad then seek a nurse.

was using the helmet up hold in front of your head and not the auto darking so done some silly things like rods sticks forget my self put the helmet done and pull the rod of off and flash and when you have the rod in your hand and working the vice and it hit and starting the arc putting my helmet up but hit the rod before i got it up so it was three flashes in one night

i think i will stick to the auto darking from now on

You'll know when you have it....you won't need to ask.....lol. If you wish to feel something like it get a mate to hold your eyes open and pour in a bucket of sand, then poke your finger in them a few times, add a good pour of salt then blast with a couple of thousand candle power light and you'll be somewhere there....enjoy.



Ive had it twice! but maybe that's why I use a SpeedGlass 9100XX.....lol

Almost as bad is arc skin burn when you've been welding in summer and because it was hot didn't wear full coverage PPE !! Ask me how I know ! It's worse than the worst sunburn ever !!

Head ache is more likely to be from the grinding noise or welding galv or other contaminates.

I can concurr with the sand in the eyes feeling. I had it as an 18 year old knowall, nearly 40 years ago now. I was watching for the arc to strike before putting the mask up. Quelle un pillock n'est ce pas?

I had no problem until driving home some hours later, when my eyes started to stream and close up, not good at 50MPH. I went into hospital with eyes scewed tightly shut.

Now you will have seen these romantic films where the mist clears and there is a beautiful nurse? Well the treatment is just like that. You get the eyelids forced open to apply the drops. Then it clears centre out and (hopefully) there is a vision in white. Doesn't really make up for it though!

^^^^^^^^^^^ That's what I was thinking, trying to weld galv. Did the weld have white, fluffy deposits?
