Need to bore a flood releif hole or 2,was wondering if my 6kg 1500w drill would cope with a 150mm core bit thru a 450mm thick stone wall? anyone got experience of this size ,i'm used to boring 50mm holes usually.

Keep clearing the hole out and you should get through without too much trouble. Next door but two has similar stone walls and plumbers put a flue through the wall with a 2kg Bosch drill.

^^ as above. Use a decent diamond core not a tungsten tipped one, keep the hole clean and dont try and force it. Is your drill variable speed with a clutch? Some of the fixed speed ones run too fast for 150mm bits and you get a sore wrist if they jam!

You havent mentioned what kind of stone it is, I've cored through a 2ft thick sandstone wall in no time but even a single pebble of something hard can slow you right down and a loose rubble infill can be a right PITA.

Better to use a hammer & chisel to remove a few stones & make good after.

Much quicker.

have done a few through sandstone walls (unto 600mm thick) and the face stone is normaly fine however the loose stuff in the middle has a habbit of falling down behind the core so keep clearing it out and have a long cold chisel with you incase you need to brake any bits to get them out. if its a hard stone then you will struggle with the drill you have and realy need a water feed proper rig. i have done it in past where quality of hole was less important by stitch drilling round the hole then braying out with big hammer and chisel

I think its a limestone,randomly laid but with no gaps in the pointing,so the face is very solid, but have no idea what the backfill will be like & i presume if its rubble it will deflect the drill.
