hello and must say i have found this site very interesting and helpfull.
so here goes my first question... looking for mig...
could anyone please give there views on the Merkle 185 machine please, have chance of a second hand one

update

have gone out and bought a mirkle 185k second hand a beautifull looking machine.
enclosing a link to web site if anone is good at reading german.
just need to sort out gas supplier think Boc is going to be cheaper as dealer is only 2 miles away.

Sorry John, looks like your introduction was missed. I've not seen much mention of Merkle machines on here but I'm sure it'll do you fine. 185 amps is a nice size, gives you plenty of power when you need it. If it's the 185K it has a nice low setting of 25 amps which is ideal for bodywork and has a very respectable duty cycle. Their site is all in Czech but most of the figures are easy to understand. They look like they're well built machines.

it goes down to 25 amps...........as to what i am going to use it for. for me at the moment it is about learning to weld, bought a stick welder about 4 months ago enjoyed playing around with it have made a few things from a plant pot holder up to a 6x3 car trailer. always wanted to learn to weld now in my mid 50s thought it was now or never. have spent a lot of time on the net reading about welding as i said got the stick then wanted to move onto mig.look for a good quality secondhand and found this one. bought it from mathieson near kilmarnock in south west scotland.
was given a demo and got it straight away,
now the fun starts learning how to use it right and the settings on the machine. hope i have not bored you

Merkle is decent kit, German made, not that widely available in the UK although there is a main distributor in the North West.

Tony Sydall, is Merkle UK. Last I heard he was going to be opening a office/warehouse Nr Manchester. Dunno if it ever happend tho, its been a long time since I heard about him.

Mathiesons in Galston used to have the rights for Merkle in Scotland.

Its decent gear, very well built.
