Fume extractor

Anyone made there own fume extractor? I'm thinking of rigging up something using an old fan taken from a cooker extractor hood. Wondering if anyone has tried this.

Hi Tiggy,

I was looking at your arrangement earlier today. Must say I'm very impressed with your work. Wish my workshop was as big as yours. For now though I'm trying to make do with what I have to hand. I'm just getting back into the welding game and money is tight.

Have just purchased an inverter and now I need the rest of the equipment to get going...decent headshield, gloves, jacket, rigger boots, various rods. You know how it is. It's all pulling out money before you get some coming in. Perhaps then I can move onto a bigger better equipped work shop.

It's actually quite small at 8ft x 12ft, but is like a tardis and seems fairly spacious inside. Having said that, I seem to have out-grown it already, but there is the chance of a small 6m x 3m unit for rent on the horizon. It looks like I may have to rip it all out and refit the larger unit with it all, which includes extending the extraction system
Most of us have to start small, it just takes time, patience and a little cash that you make along the way. The most important thing to have is a 'vision'. You will get there good luck.
