hi
l have been lumbered with helping a mate obtain some electricity for a
remote barn, electricity board are talking phone numbers about putting a supply in despite overhead cables passing with in feet of the barn, l cant belive the numbers quoted to run a cable down a wooden pole into a transformer and then down again into a brick built box that we have to supply, l just cant understand how they come up with the price of £33,000 transformer must be using gold for the windings l guess
anyway that is not a route he can afford so he wants to set up a generator as you can buy a lifetimes supply of red diesel for less than £33,000
l have been looking at pto generators that should be on the back of a tractor but we were thinking old transit engine/box set up in a steel frame and short propshaft into the generator , no problem l can cope with that bit.
its keeping a steady output l am unsure of, l can adjust the revs till we get the desired 240v output but when he turns the kettle on the load will increase and the revs will drop l assume ?, so how are we going to make some sort of govenor that will pick the revs up when required ? and drop them back when the load is turned off, dose anyone know of anything that uses such a thing that l can uterlise or make one from scratch or how about electronic version with a stepper motor that tugs the accelerator cable perhaps driven of a pick up on the crank pully ??
open to suggestions here
