Battery pack

Hello all
Wondering if anyone can shed light on what im after. Ive a small digital voice recorder which takes two AAA batteries. it doesnt last that long and im wondering is their an external battery pack i could purchase and possibly plug it in through the earphone socket? would that even work?.
There is no mains power outlet

very much doubt if a power supply will work through the "EARPHONE" out socket,
I`ll be surprised if you cant connect up a supply using the existing terminals in the battery compartment, and a fly lead to plug in the external supply.

What make of batteries are you using back in the days of personal cd players, if I used budget brand batteries it would last 1-2 hours but if I splashed out all expense spared and used duracell it would last 6-8 hours

Depending if AA or AAA cut two pieces of wooden dowling put screw in both and lead a lead to external power pack or multivoltage power tranformer. Works for me.

Ive been using duracell AAA and need it to last longer. Im using the AAA dave, can i run a lead from the battery terminals to a external power pack?

Connect two wires + and - to dowels and connect other to power pack, use the dowels as batteries.

Power source

Just make sure your power source delivers the equivalent power that the two AAA batteries suppy -- 3 volt.
NO MORE, eg:: 4.5V, 6v etc or it is likely to go Bang and a poof of smoke will render it useless.

Yes something like that is fine.
My first digital camera, 480x360 pixels, took about ten quids
worth of odd batteries. the ones with it were new and lasted
tens minutes or so. I taped one of those plastic things with
AA batteries to it. I looked like a right cheapskate but it
worked well.

That will most likely be no good whatsoever. The batteries will probably all be in series, meaning that the output of that unit will be 12V. If you want a larger capacity from AAA batteries, the pack needs to have series-parallel connections, which isn't the standard form.

You can do it quite easily, but it may mean reconfiguring a multi-cell holder if there aren't any available for your requirements. Just done a quick search on Google, and this link explains the principles in a simple and easy to follow manner:

You should prob check that the two AAA batteries are in series. Its 99% certain that they are - you can normally see that the +ve on one battery and -ve of the other are directly joined (to 1.5V cells in series to make a 3V). That being the case you could use a two D cell holder with suitable lead e.g.

Then use the suggest dowel trick - +ve to one dowel and _ve to another. They need to connect to the +ve/-ve terminals that aren't direct directly connected.

D size cells, the ones you use for the big Maglites. Put two of those into a twin holder and there's your 3V with lots of stamina.
