What size metal tube (internal dia) will I be able to fit a 2” square timber inside?

As the title really, I`m not good at maths. Not so tight that it jams, but a snug fit that will not rock about .

The diagonal is a bit over 2.8" so something around that ID.

76mm chs should do nicely, may need just to knock the arris of the timber very slightly.
Assuming its 2" finished size.

Simple way to work it out is to draw a triangle with two sides of 2" in length and measure the length of the third side, else measure the diagonal if you already have the piece of wood.

Was in two minds as to whether to edit it to mention the right angle bit, but thought it would go without saying. I have been known to be wrong though.

Without doing the math, 76mm sounds a touch much. Around 2-3/4" would be my guess, not 3". That would leave some slop?

76mm CHS, 3mm wall, just a tiny bit under 70mm inside.


2" square measures 71.8mm diagonally.

Right, that`s me sorted. I wil try to get an off-cut of around 76mm. By the way, what are standard sizes for tube? I mean in the way that 50mm & 75mm box is available for example..
