Halogen lamp help

Hello all, ive a 500w halogen lamp outside my rear door operated by a switch in the kitchen. Ive tried all i can to get the sensor to work properly but to no avail. Some times it works fine but the switch is turned off at night and then the sensor wont work the following night.
Ive tried the 4 quick on offs with the switch but still wont work on sensor The light works fine but not always on the sensor.
Should i replace it, anyone know of any good quality ones?.

I think if you have a sensor then you need to leave it powered on all the time, it comes on when someone is in the area and off after a delay, why do you keep turning it off for??? if someone goes around the back in the middle of the night you'll never know

Its on a farm and sometimes needs to be left on all the time so hence the need to try and get it back on sensor.

all the ones I have had dealings with, have a day/night sensor, you need to adjust it to activate about dusk time, you also have a "light on" timer again adjustable from a few seconds on, to a few minutes on, If you need the light to be illuminated for any period then 2 quick clicks on the master switch overrides the sensors and it stays on till you switch it off,then switch it off, wait a wee while and switch it back on with a single throw of the switch putting it back onto to night/day/timer control. it will normally illuminate during the day time for a few seconds then go into "auto" mode. dont matter if the PIR is inbuilt or a separate unit. A separate PIR can switch several lights on, just watch the loading and checked its rated capacity.

Have bought a few of these seem to be ok Cheep to run so leaving on is a choice.

if its a cheapish unit they are only good for a few years
