Scimitar S6A 1977

Latest project is a complete restoration on a reliant scimitar!! So will try and get the body lifted off prior to my portamig turning up (14 days and no sign boo hoo). doesn't look too bad from underneath but they tend to rot from the top between body and chassis/outriggers so will have to wait and see. Have to brush up on fibre glass repairs too (anyone on here got any tips for materials/paint for fibreglass??).

I have never seen one in the flesh but have always been tempted to buy one of these to restore. Maybe some day when I have the time and space.

I personally think they are lovely looking motors.

Nah essex V6 at the moment, and will probably stay that way however may take it up to 3.4 on the rebuild.

Always like the old Scimitar, even as a kid. Loved the noise they made too!

The old man has had them for the last 35yrs, although the current one hasn't turned a wheel for the last 6yrs. If he didn't live soooooo far away I'd pull it out the shed.

I do like to early ones better, nicer lines

Nicer lines cost nicer money unfortunately. Got this one off gum tree for £600.

Only been picky, I like them all. Revamp of the interior and it will be a nice bit of kit,

Fibreglass painting - everyone I've spoken too (got an 80's America fibreglass vehicle to paint) has said that they don't need special treatment any more. Do read a bit about do's and don'ts of fibreglass though - don't use paint stripper on them or put them in a baking oven.

bought a few years ago when i had a scim back windows leak on them mine used to will back seats with water depended on what angle it was parked

Been reading up on fibreglass repair/spraying and seems youre correct, just take it slow and use decent primer/filler and it should be ok. There are a lot of minor cracks some of which go down through gelcoat so will need sorting but the rest I will just treat as normal respray prob use polyester primer and filler rather than epoxy as the weather isnt getting any better (dont have air fed mask).

I was very tempted to buy a relaint Sabre had a bent suspension arm (Standard Triumph), auctioned finished at £400ish was seen couple months later in Practical Classics up for £3500

thats always the way mate, even if the missus is gonna kill you itd be worth keeping just to fix then flog on for a tidy profit

It always seemed odd to me to take the 3.0 Capri running gear and put it into something that weighed twice as much. I don't mind the car as such but I've been in a few and they always smell funny.

Dunno what they weigh (or what a capri weighs) but I've always assumed that they're dead light, due to having fibreglass bodywork.
Aren't all cars made out of "canoe material" quite light, like reliant robins.
Or is it just one (another!) of those things I've always assumed wrongly?

they have known problem with water leaks from back window
my old one used to fill the back seats with water under the carpet between seat base and floor is like a bum shaped hole
OK till someone sat in the seat and squashed the foam and get a wet bum made a seal with silicone fitted new door seal filled with silicone then Vaseline on the back door frame shut rear door duct tape it shut for 24 hours then with a bit of fiddling you have a good door seal
