Portamig 185

Finally bit the bullet and ordered a 185 from Steve, can't wait to get started. Thinking of going for a 10L 200 bar argon mix as i beleive this will give me about 2 1/2 hours practice? other option locally is a 9L 137, so I worked it out roughly as :-

10x200 = 2000 at say 12Lper minute 167minutes versus
9x137 = 1233 " " 102 minutes

so for every 2 10L I would need 3 9L which works out much better over time (buying so no rental charge)

have I worked this out correctly?

I went the 9x137 it lasted 3 months I've now gone the BOC argon route lots cheaper and greater capacity.
I find it welds better

Had a portamig 215 delivered last week & planned on doing a load of practice to get used to it ,but by following the tutorials & setup instructions i found myself diving straight into jobs with half descent results for me on 2mm tubing & van body panels ( only had bird s**t stick experience before).

I'm quite careful with my money but don't mind podding out for the right kit & was dead set on non rental bottles, guess what: i found the best deal for me was rental. I checked out loads of deposit type schemes but when you take into account refills, travelling etc the local energas supplier came up best @ just over £100 for 20l @230bar argon universal for 1 year & £35 for a refill( sure the volkszone deal would be better but i'm not a forum member )

Unfortunately nothing local unless SIGGAS comes up with something (PM'd) otherwise toss up between Welding gasses St helens, BOC and hobbyweld.

No you don't have to be a member anyhow you can sign up to volkszone (vzi) to cover yourself, but they didn't ask my nick.
I told the chap I was doing up a Vw Karmann Ghia, as usual he said what's one of those then.
