"Big" MiG's

I'm looking to get a "slightly" bigger MiG than the one I have(75A, 110V) once I get the garage rigged for 220.

I'll have a 30amps on the breaker to play with, so I've been lookign around and think I've narrowed my choises to 3(mabey 4)

Millermatic 180: miller claims 24ga up to 5/16" in one pass
Lincoln Power Mig 180: claims up to 3/16", or 1/2" using flux core...seems odd.
Hobart Handler 187: no claim on thickness

or if I could find one, and depending on price

Hobart Handler 210

All of these are about the same price, and power level. So I'm wondering if there is a big difference between them, or if it's a Ford vs Chevy / Yamaha vs Suzuki debate

All decent machines & (not having them in the UK) you will just have to compare the specs.between the models.
Minimum/Maximum Amps, Duty Cycles, Warranty etc. An important factor is the quality of the wire feed assembly which you should try & physically compare. They will all be good though & I would imagine your most important purchasing factor would be on after sales spares support, ie.whoever is local to you etc.

Better still, dismantle one then they could all take a few parts each in their hand luggage (visions of the 'sharp objects' bin at the airport full of mig parts )

I would go with the Miller 180. I have the MM185 and love it. If i was going to buy another small welder it would be the MM180...Bob

Funny you should say that, when I got married we went out to utah for honeymoon, At the time i was and still do order parts for havesting kit, from kansas, I was half way through a through a refurb job at the time and needed some parts ASAP, So picked the parts up in person about 1 1/2 Cwt in total, the airline didnt bat an eyelid (AA always fly them) unlike my wife who was less than impressed with the whole thing.

Me and the missus had a romantic few days away last year. I had my eye on an auction on one of the days (Which happened to be Valentines day!), and without too much nagging she let me go to it!
On the way back from the holiday, we took a 100 mile detour to sunny Bolton where i took her into the factory where the auction had been held to collect my auction winnings.
I think she must love me!!!!

Too true!

As its a ltd co i need a company secretary - Her - aint told her yet she needs to be able to weld - although she has asked to have a go mig welding ('That one where you have the pointy gun thing and it crackles a lot') - ok love, no problem!

Is that still the case? I'd heard that the rules were changing and you wouldn't need a company secretary any more. Not sure if the new rules have come in yet or if it's next year. My accountant is my secretary, but he's not very sexy.

From October 2008 it's no longer necessary for a private company (a limited one that is) to have a company secretary, although you can if you wish.
