magnetic welding clamps

Has anyone here tried these magnetic clamps http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RDGTOOLS-...260?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43aa4681a4 theres a lot of cheap magnetic clamps for sale but im dubious how accurate or strong they are, so if anyone has tried these feedback would be appreciated as would recommendations for other strong accurate magnetic welding clamps i can use to assembly 50x50 and 60x60 box sections frames, thanks

I use them sometimes for box section frames when I can't be bothered with my mitre clamps, mine are cheap one's from some market stall a few years back, they are ok and accurate enough for tacking.

I get sick of brushing off all the metal debris though, if you miss some it can soon throw the angle off by a couple of degrees.

Handy things but if I had to choose between the two it would be clamps every time.

I have found that if I try to weld too close to these magnetic clamps they can make your mig arc do weird things,

Yes i had read about that before gordon, be fine for tacking up though, after my last post i realised i could use mitre clamps for t frames, i know sip arent that well thought of these days for welders but what are their mitre clamps like? http://www.toolbox.co.uk/sip-welders-angle-clamp-07649-14683-119135 much cheaper on ebay mind you, suggestions on good quality mitre clamps also welcomed, would be nice to have something with a 4" capacity

Those SIP clamps are fine, not at that price though, I have 4 off them bought from Halfords for £15 each in a sale,

Im pretty sure halfords stopped selling them years ago (maybe why you got yours cheap) i have had a look on their website and cant find them at any rate, i will try and drop by halfords this evening and check if i get a chance, online best deal i can find for the 9" clamps is a shade under £65 each

I also got 6 from different branches of Halfords when they were selling them off for £15-00 each,, Really nice bit of kit, Although the Halford ones were the 6" size and not the 9""

Where was that from? popped into halfords and they no longer do them which doesnt surprise me as they seem to have stopped selling a lot of useful stuff over the last couple of years

A cheap and simple way to jig up corners is with some home made box section squares, with 2 of them and few clamps you can build a complete corner, with legs going in 3 directions

You can get them SIP clamps cheap. I got 2 from the local tool rep, 9" ones for £25 as SIP had them on offer. Managed to get another 2 when the offer closed for the same price. Keep looking on the SIP web site they sometimes come up or get in contact with the local SIP tool rep for offers

Good idea Paul, I've built enough tables to know that the in-plane rectangles are easy, it's getting the next stage right that's the tricky bit - connecting the rectangular frames together and making it a 3D object. I'll be making some of those.
