intergrips, clecos and sheet metal folders.

Im going to be ordering some intergrip and cleco clamps but have a couple of questions before i do, is it possible to remove the round pins from the intergrips to remove them from the panel or do they need to be slid along the panel to remove them? with the cleco clamps is it better to go for the larger sizes for eg 1/4" as i can imagine the larger holes are easier to fill with weld afterwards without leaving a gap, lastly its about time i got a sheet metal folder, im still trying to decide whether to make one or buy one, has anyone here tried this ebay folder http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heavy-Dut..._Metalworking_Supplies_ET&hash=item1c2823e1ba thanks

A long as you have access to the rear with the intergrip clamps you can remove them without sliding.

Loosen wingnut & remove square bar from underneath.

ive got the 1/8th clecos and never had prob with them for filling holes.
just gets pain when youve got 300+ to fill

I've got a fewClecos in each size, and I prefer to use the smaller ones. Takes nothing to fill with the MIG or TIG

Works crazy at the moment so free time is limited, i cant even get to the steel merchants without taking time off as they dont open on a saturday, its just easier to buy one thats pre made if it will do what i want without falling to bits after a month

That looks better made than many of the other types made from angle. Welding a bit of flat bar across the clamping beam would stiffen it although the bolts used to clamp it down might become the weak link then

I also came across these folders http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=MtnFHQOwB6I which look identical to those sold by harbor freight in the us, they seemed to get decent reviews on harbor freights site, so far i have found two sources in europe, one claims it will fold 2mm sheet the other 1.5mm, i dont have the space for a decent industrial machine but one of these could be stored away in the storage shed when not in use, the fact its a lot wider than the one on ebay is nice, means i can make up long sections with fewer welded joins, think im looking at about £300 delivered rather than the £95 delivered for the vice mounted ebay folder, if it really will fold 2mm it would do everything i would want really, thoughts?

Well that wasn't 2mm he folded there.

Realistically folders of that style will fold 1mm but anything over that and you are going to struggle. esp at full length

I think you will also find the 2mm quote is for Aluminium

Possibly 2mm aluminium capacity your correct as neither supplier states what material, however after a little digging the harbor freight site does at least have the specs:

Mild steel to 16 gauge (up to 18" wide), 20 gauge (up to 36" wide)
Stainless steel to 22 gauge

How much do you want to spend? If you are prepared to wait for one look out for a Gabro. They come in 610mm and 1000mm versions. Although the larger go for big bucks.

Far more versatile than a straight folder, and you can bend up to 1/4"ish under 4" long.

Not really sure what i want to spend tbh, for me its more about value for money when buying something, happy to pay what something is worth but wont pay inflated prices if that makes any sense, i would rather get on while its warm and the motivation is there than wait, besides which it would no doubt mean a trip half way across the country for a gabro folder which i would rather not do, as it happens the job im on at the moment requires me to order up some steel (so i could get mine delivered free to site), i have been browsing their website looking at whats available and i saw they sell 80x80x10mm angle, do you think a folder built from this similar to welderpauls folder here http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3710 built a metre wide would be up to folding 2mm mild steel? wouldnt be so worried if it would only manage 2mm ms 500mm wide so long as it would do 1.2mm ms full width
