Pond covers

I looked through I'd share what I do for money and enjoyment. I don't really make gates or railing anymore (until I recently got a railing job) For the last few years I've been easing my way into working sculpture, mostly pond covers. lately they've been getting bigger and take a bit more planning and concentration, I like to think it keeps me out of trouble

A great way of making an interesting feature of something that could be a really ugly safety aid.
The fish is particularly interesting to me.
I have been looking at this style of Japanese art for long time, the bold lines are very tempting for cold bent work. I have a pal who makes scarves using Japanese tattoo art like this, I am feeling obliged to make something like this.
I am still amused by the parallel evolution of our styles of work, simple bold lines, curves and lots of space without fussy detailing.

Yea I love Japanese art as well, I love line work, I think there is very little around, in fact you are one of the only other artist I've seen using similar methods. A friend of mine is a tattoo artist (I made that tree for her) She specialises in Japanese line art and she is going to give me some of her original drawings to replicate in steel. I cant wait!

Thats the wrong attitude Dev, you can do anything!! The trickiest thing about them is the floor space to make them on.

Thats got to be one of the best ideas i've seen for ages, not only are you addressing the safety side, especially with kids around butr also the security side, some of these large Koi carp are worth anything from £500 upwards so that has to be your main selling point.

I made these two a couple of weeks ago and it took about 10 months of planning and to and froing with the owners to get it just right. Definitely one more technical but really enjoyed doing it!

I've only just started getting noticed by Koi owners, this particular pond had 5 very expensive koi and an increasing population of otters so they needed to find a solution. I'd say its very much 50/50 at the moment fish/children.

Thats Great, what size wire are you using?? and did you get them powder coated or just sprayed?? just thinking with all that water what rust prevention methods you used??

I guess Galavansing such a delicate framework is definately out of the question, ElectroPlating??

I've only just started getting noticed by Koi owners, this particular pond had 5 very expensive koi and an increasing population of otters so they needed to find a solution. I'd say its very much 50/50 at the moment fish/children.

You need to get your name in the Koi Magazines as well as Garden Centres etc, That should bump up your orders

When they're powder coated I have them zink sprayed for extra protection. I have had others just galvanised without much fuss. I was asked this week if there was much distortion.

Just a bit, thats why it took 10 months of planning. Its all worth it when it comes together and fits properly though. My nervs are always shot by the time I get to install the job another reason to get out of ben
