little nut like thing shaped like a top hat , goes into wood top first and has teeth on the brim part of the hat to bite into the wood so you can use a bolt into it?

You can also grind the spikes off and weld them into holes as a threaded insert, tidier than welding nuts on the outside of things. Either lap weld and grind near flush or butt weld into the hole.

It's the high points shown in pic that start the melting process when resistance welded
