Is the idea to sharpen them without removing them from the machine ? The ones in your picture are scalloped and the best way to sharpen would be to flat grind them on the other side using something like the water bath bench grinder shown earlier with a guide of some kind or a very expensive Tormek system.

no, the blades are removed from machine and sharpened on the flat side
at the mo im using a flap disc "little and often" to avoid heating
but in stoney ground the blades will require more sharpening more often

Why not just use an air grinder, as suggested earlier, and then have a hose feeding water onto the blade whilst sharpening?

I'm probably missing the point of what you mean completely here, but it doesn't matter one jot what type of disc is used if water is only being run over the blade being sharpened, not the grinder blade/disc, to draw away the heat?

Why not just make one? Get a small motor fit a pulley then run belt to a shaft with a larger pulley on it and a stone on the other end.

BTW using water with a grinder doesn't spell instant death (for the grinder) but I'd use a 110V one for personal safety. My mini grinder is quite often soaking wet and sometimes I have to jetwash it out to stop me getting shocks when working with sea water (sea water conducts electricity whereas fresh water doesn't much and de-ionised water not at all for practical purposes). It's still working and it's a few years old now.

No, I'm not having a laugh, my expensive Hilti TE80 got jetwashed twice today - still works perfectly, windings still intact. My work equipment gets a regular soaking since my work involves brick and concrete slurry and lots of water. All of our equipment gets jetwashed every time it's returned to the workshop before it's even looked at.

If it can get in there, it shouldn't take it long to get/dry out either. Can't say as I'd personally be too chuffed at the thought of using an electrical item which had been flushed through with water, but conversely, it shouldn't really be harmed too much if any by it. If the windings have been manufactured properly, they should be fine. Main things which are likely to suffer over time are the cores, from rust, but if the tool's being used in slurry to start with....

As far as I know, (bearing in mind I rarely use any form of angle grinder), pretty much any disc should be fine to use around water. The only thing water will effect is the paper type backing on flap wheels and such.

Not sure on that point then. I'd assumed they'd be fine, but that would suggest otherwise.

A quick search of Machinemart turned up these, (carbide), which look like they could be suitable:

my grinders have been fine around water as well.

not tryed it with the 230 one but the 110v one gets diped in mud / water quite often and has been washed a few times.

i've also used water as coolant with it and on things i'm grining with it.

you don't need or want much water as it will throws it off as fast as you put it on but a trickel is enough to stop sparks and keep the wok cool, fishtank air line and taps are ideal t control flow, small pump up sprayer
