new/old welder

well getting rid of my gasless welder as my mate ha offered me his old welder for very cheap

its not exactly new but cant see that being a problem

question is i think its hooked up to use hobby bottles

what do i need to convert it to use proper sized bottles?

anyone have any links to the manual or anything?

Hehe, good luck with that one!
Just kidding, small SIP machines don't have the best reputation but with a bit of fettling they can be made to work ok.
You'll need one of these, you'll also most definitely need to give it a service before running any wire through it. A new liner, tip and shroud will sort that out, also available here, just tell him what you need and he'll sort you out with the correct parts.
I see someone's stuck a home made feeder on the back for larger reels, not a bad idea really, the only issue is that you've no way of tensioning the reel so it'll have a tendency to try and uncoil itself.
Links to the manuals are here if they're still working ok, you may find some of the links are obsolete.

thanks for that, yeah ive heard about the wire feed problems but im not paying much for it anyway

il definitely get a new liner some tips and a shroud for it, im guessing i can get it all from that site

and as for the gas, i have a boc place not far from me, i think thier delivery is £35 but what about collection? surely i cant just turn up in my car and put the bottle in the boot can i?

As far as I know yes, you can.
Just make sure it's secure and can't roll around.
Or you could put it in the front with a wig and some lippy and pretend it's your missus........seem to recall there was a joke about someone else on here doing that a looong time ago.

thanks for the info it will cost me £5 in fuel to collect it rather than thier delivery charge

They'll still hit you with a 'collection charge' which from memory could be around £18, so be prepared for that.

Yes the 'handling' fee is really all the depot get. My gas is from BOC too. The monthly rental is much less than I was paying when I was with Air products.
