Gude 155/6W

Im new to the forum and would like to post my first question.
I live in France and Im looking for a good Mig for car bodywork.
I have read that the Clarke pro 90 is very good and reliable, unfortunately these are not available in France without paying very high carriage charges.
I have found a Gude 155/6W mig 25A to 130A.
Has anyone had experience of these welders and would it be suitable

Fairly certain it is one of the Chinese made MIG's which may be bad or may not, depends if the seller is controlling the quality of the build or they have just bought and rebadged.

The power settings are decent enough for car bodywork.

I can understand the carraige costs for a Clarke being a little high but Interparcel only charged me £21 to France for a 20kg parcel that was near enough the size of a hobby MIG, although many others were quoting £50..and it got there safely in 2 days.

Hi Boggy.
First welcome to France.

For a Clarke 151EN I have been quoted £24 shipped by UPS.
Not ordered yet.

At the moment trying to sort out a decent argon mix supplier without being tied into a expensive contract.

Did you sort out your gas supply if not try googling Linde industrial gas there are national in France and there is probably a supplier near you, they do large and small bottles

I use Linde, not cheap compared to deals in UK. But where are the alternatives? Used to use pub gas in Portugal, until they put 'more fizz' in it, which mucked up my welds. Also I have several bought bottles, but nobody will fill them. So stuck with a contract.

I get most of my kit from UK. Either by friends passing or cheap shipping. Try www.ecoparcel.eu just sent a 15kg parcel to a Greek island for €18.
Nice spot, Bergerac... But prefer a wiff of the sea, so near Rochefort.

Boggy, where in Deux Sevres? Not that far north of us.

Oh. About shipping from UK. Axminster sent a box of tools for 12 quid. About the same size box with a euro mig torch and bits cost 24? So it is up to the vendors and their agents. I did query the mig bits, but got no reply.

I have mentioned this before, but a friend bought a cheepy mig from a French co. and it quit (wire feed) after a few hours, but just out of the 1 yr warranty. Customer service stinks here, there was no interest in his problem.
(before I get accused of being anti French, it is the biggest gripe with both my French and Expat friends.

Glad you are sorted with gas supply.
We are sort of central Deux sevres just 10 mins from Parthenay. I know what you mean about aftersales service,or lack of it,trying to get info before you buy is just as bad

new to the forum saw the post about ecoparcel and had a shock 2kg toulouse to oxford 25 euros!!!!
also query about mig gas can you buy bottles here now or do the have to be rented?
just bought a plasma cutter so as not to rent bottles,best bit of kit I have ever bought:laughing
