Welding screen choice

Not too impressed by the Speedglas screen i got a few weeks back. Seems a little 'plasticy' and poor for the money.

I quite like the look of the screens that have a clear grinding screen behind. The screen needs the facility to use an air pack on. Its in use day in, day out, so cost not too critical, durability and ease of use is more important.

Any recommendations from pro's/production welders?

Your in the same position as myself, I've got a 2002ish speedglass vari that is almost as good as a glass screen so I upgraded to a 9002x 2010ish adflow which is rubbish, its an ornament on a coat hook. The head gear is sub standard and the screen is different shades from left to right on the same setting and opaque at best. I feel ripped off for the money I spent and will never frequent speedglass again. Apart from a glass screen which at the moment I don't think you can beat you have limited choice. I have tried some of the lower end lids to no avail I've been recommended the optrel range, but as yet have not used one for long enough to form an opinion.

I was going to ask just this question.
My old speedglas is on it's way out, I mainly need the air feed to stop my specs steaming up. I reckon the airfeed bits could be removed and retrofitted to another mask without damaging it.
So what other quality helmets do people reccomend.

Having already had an airflow system and finding it fit for purpose but very bulky, and if money was not really a consideration my money would look at one of the new'ish Miller Elite masks with the cool band system fitted to it, sorry guys no link as I'm on my phone, but if you check out Miller welding helmets you will find it.http://www.millerwelds.com/products/welding_protection/heatstress/coolband/ ......managed to work it out.

Kemper kit is pretty good. I've a autodark helmet for years. I shifted quite a few of the air fed version as well, with no probs. There are a few agents in the UK too.

Looked at some of those a while back, excellent rep, I believe they use the same front cartridge as the speedglass, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, god you take a look at the miller with the coolband ? or is cooling not really a requirement ? .

I used an Optrel Satellite for the last 6yrs. The first one was supplied, it a hard life, never a problem, works well down to 5amps

On the strength of that I bought one.

Because I weld alot of stuff at very low ampage, I don't like dust on the screens, and hate it when they get marked, they get used for MIG then.

I think the grinding ones would be dust traps.
