little weekend bullbar project

Hi all, thought I would share this with you. It's a bullbar i made to replace the old one which was rotten. Overall i'm happy with it and it's all square at least and over all gives a bit of protection to the front end

before anyone says it isn't mounted very well I hadn't made all the mounts for it when i took these and the bolts will be replaced with proper high tensile m10 ones =), hope the pics are alright, taken on my new phone =)

also I have a proper tow rope on the way as well i just put that onf or effect!

It wasn't bolted on there just thrown on and not tightened up. i will mount it properly probarbly tomorrow and get another pic up

I can't remember what they call it letting chavs kill themselves doing stupid things to make the human race more intellegent

If you are going to keep it on, it needs extending on the lower portion to cover the bumper corners, I hate painted bumpers,Give me the old style that were designed to take a bit of a nudge or scrape.

I did vehicle recovery for many years and I wouldn't trust those "towing eyes", they're too small and too high!

Also, have you informed your insurance company?

Good article, but I have to argue the front of a Defender is hardly "pedestrian friendly" with or without a bullbar!

With regareds to the protruding eyelets at the front, the police could see these as dangerous in the same way as vehicle logo's on the bonnet became illegal on all new cars, Rolls Royce having to devise their sprit of extacy " the winged lady" on the bonnet to retract on impact.

As Robotstar5 says, towing/recovery eyes need to be in line with the attachment points,I did have a stainless bullbar on my Land Cruiser for a little while but did get permission from my insurers(old farts insurers Saga)!!! did not cost any extra.

with those 2 towing eyes that is definitely illegal they will do serious damage to someone in a collision, infact the full thing will be illegal

But the front of a Defender is already allowed for under the construction and use regulations Now it you start hanging winches off the front that's a different matter

Not for much longer have you seen the DC100 prototype?

thankfully the dc100 will now be a completely different vehicle (it has been announced). It's going to be a new 'soft roader', much smaller, going up against the nissan juke et al. It's probably high time land rover entered that market. Any new defender will be completely and utterly new and not related to the dc100

btw. I don't necessarily agree with the argument that things have to be pedestrian friendly for when you drive in to them.. you shouldn't hit them in the first place. I think that your bull-bar probably serves to justify the opposing argument however, as it's really quite evil ....
