What have Ebay done now

Most mornings when I get to work I scan through the websites of interest to me. One of them is Ebay where I look at the classic car ads of makes I am interested in.

This morning I have discovered that the classic car category has gone! Life will never be the same again.

You can go into the normal cars and search on make but the old car makes that were there under classic cars have gone. No Alvis!

In one of the other criteria there is a modern/classic switch. When you use that it comes up with the cars where classic was a trim level so the seller has used it in the description. So lots of A class mercs.

Well thats enough to deter me from bothering to look at classic cars then !
There has never been a catagory for classic bikes either, I have messaged them a number of times about that but it's a waste of time.

Ebay is a shadow of it's former self. And it's all their own doing. Either by not listening to the like of Trading Standards, or their users concerns.

It's just become a cash machine for the shareholders. The rot started when they bought paypal out, the charges are now excessive and it's mandatory to offer paypal which becomes default of course.

What they have done though, a while ago, is bin the classic car parts section, so everything is now mixed in with general stuff. Assumes you search on a specific make of car... totally dumb. Some parts fit many cars. I used to hunt through looking for a particular type of part, not going by car marque. Next to impossible now.

What really racks me off with ebay is having to bypass the list of questions when contacting a seller - as far as I can see all the info is taken from the page anyway!

And another thing! When I go into my account I have to go through the cover page with lots of suggestions on etc. Utter squitter!

Agreed they are rather arrogant with it all, second hand items are now becoming hard to find in general.

What perplexes me is why no eBay alternative has arisen, given all the failings with it. Sellers get hammered for slightly less than perfect feedback and get big chunks of their earnings taken off them in charges, be it eBay's own or PayPal. If a decent alternative came along, I'm sure people would desert in droves.

There's Ebid - I put some nuts & bolts on there (about 100 Kg starting at a tenner) and didn't get one bid!

Most of Ebid seems to be business users.

That's not really a problem though. I find it very useful to compare prices between different suppliers. You can always specify "used" in your search criteria if you want.

If I don't want to go through Ebay or PayPal I Google the suppliers name and quite often it will come up with their own website.
