New equipment and new welds !

Hello all, have taken delivery of a new R Tech ac/dc tig welder with the digital panel and have been practising today
Now I have also been to the local friendly scap merchants this am and picked up some bits of aluminium and stainless plate.
Photos are the result, any criticism is welcomed as I have a long way to go

Rtech 210 ac/dc digital panel,
Argon gas
1.6 and 2.4 tungstons, red and white tip
Aluminium and stainless filler rods.
Bottom picture - the 3 welds on the top right were done with the foot pedal.

I've been looking at these machines as they seem to be a good entry level ac/dc machine.
Well the 160amp one I've been eyeing up is.
Keep us updated with how you get on, I'll be getting one soon I think.

Looks good, just practice - you've obviously got the skills needed, they just need perfecting, and practice is the way to go with that.

if that;s the first time you've used a tig then, I'd open a beer. Ali looks to be coming on nicely. Stainless is too hot



edit just read the SS pic notes, increase your gas (10ish) and keep the torch straighter

Thanks for the comments and yes those are the results of my first tig use. I still have got to get my head round all the pulse settings percentage/frequency/base amps etc so have been doing a lot of reading at night but can only take so much before my head hurts !

Thanks for the tips Shox will up the flow, do you think I should be using a smaller tungston for thin plate ?
I have only managed to do 1 run which has resulted in a nice blue colour in the weld bead but as yet am unable to reproduce it

No 1.6 is fine for 1.0mm sheet, The tip needs to be needle sharp though

Who's a lucky boy then, nice bit of kit and the practice is working out well to....stick at it...no pun intended.....

i am only 15 but i think you need to speed up abit on some parts, keep your arc length shorter and when adding the metal do so from the side, are you left or right handed?

More practise pics from today, I still think it could be too hot as the heat mark seems too far out but if I speed up the filler doesn't have time to melt in at the amps I'm running, more amps more heat more warpage etc
Any tips ?

i am only 15 but i think you need to speed up abit on some parts, keep your arc length shorter and when adding the metal do so from the side, are you left or right handed?

im trying to think of the easiest way to explain it but put your tig rod in at a 30 degree angle from the plate(vertical degree), have the tig rod go in like this at the torch aswell - - (sorry if you dont understand i will try another way of explaining) and also when your ending your run hold the torch on end of weld as it goes out to stop the nasty looking weld end.

also sorry if i seem big headed to im an apprentice in the dockyard

nice to meet another shipyard apprentice by the way everyone I also have this machine it's awesome just the same as 4k+ millers and kemppi's I have used previously also do you have the pedal I do and I just changed to a small 9 torch (wp9 flex head parweld) real small handle and no buttons so comfortable as I didn't like the big wp26 it came with

Does anyone know where these R-tech welders are made? I hear nothing but good reviews about them, they are obviously a good low budget welder, I think I'm swayed to getting one!

They are Chinese but rtec sort out the problems here I believe, my mate has the 200 acdc set and it seems good, I use a Parweld 200 acdc at home and there is nothing to choose between them in my opinion

Wp9 is a handy little torch, mine is the water cooled flexible one, won't take a lot of amps though, I mostly use it when making stainless manifolds as its small and gets in places a 17 or 26 can't reach.
If you use a button end cap they are tiny
