can i run a 10hp phase converter on a 32 amp plug

it says it needs 40 amps but i am not going to need to run it flat out

can i run it up to say 6 hp on a 32 amp supply or does it need full power regardless of motor size

The only sure way would be to try it but I wouldn't.

If its any help i run a 7.5kw (10hp) off a 32A MCB C type. Ok as i only have to start up a 3hp motor.
Its the current draw upon startup, on yours could be as much as 18HP, minimum 9hp!

Dare say a few will come forward, without calcy 24A plus startup, could be double.

Definate no if a digi inverter, rotary it will struggle.

The current inrush at start up could be massive , i have been told up to 6 times the current needed to just run the motor. it might be do-able by using a vfd.
