My new toy

Hey all, I have bought a new toy. It comes in the guise of a union carbide ucc-305 ac/dc tig with foot pedal and interlas 401 boc style water cooled torch with water cooler and pump. It's a beast! Weighs about half a ton and welds superbly. So far I have tried aluminium and seem to have taken to it like a duck to water. This coming week I'll post some pics of my 1st few runs with it.
What are your opinions on these welders?

I need to get some accessories for the interlas 401 torch and I have seen the cheapanese 60 piece sets on eBay but they only list them with wp-xx numbers. Does anyone know if the wp-xx accessories will fit the interlas 401 torch?

I have a similar vintage Airco. The Miller Dialarcs are a similar design. Miller or ESAB seemed to make all of them.

These typically have no electronics other than the diodes. Really the only maintenance is cleaning contacts and adjusting the HF gaps. The only thing that fils is the HF caps can leak. Keep the right spark gap, too big and you can boil the caps.

My beast will be 40 years old next year.

They do like lots of power. Mine says at 220V it should have a 175A breaker (108A current.) Runs fine on a 50A supply.

Machines at this vintage are rated differently. Mine is a 300A machine (300A at 60% duty cycle). It goes up to 475 amps. Yours probably has similar specs.

At 80-90V OCV, they have a nice arc and the arc welding is real smooth.

I have 3ph at the unit so I won't need to be running it at 220v. Spark gaps etc have just been done. I ended up paying less than 300 for it including a pub size bottle of argon. It's awesome. Does anyone know about the torch and accessories?

Post a pic of the torch, it is probably the same as others. Someone will probably recognize it.

I picked up an ESAB torch with some odd model #. I recognized it as a WP-26.

Nice to have 400V. Not a real option on this side of the pond (3-phase here is usually 208V.)

The weldcraft parts look quite different. I don't see a 400A torch on their web site. They do have a 350 and 500 and the parts are different.

You asked if the WP-XX parts are compatible. WP-xx are weldcraft model numbers.

Ahhhhhh ok I see, sorry I didnt know what the wp numbers were about.
