So what would be a cheaper food grade type option....its what I call white nylon, shiny easy clean surface....its to build a Biltong drier...

Yeah that would be a simple option, but I'm a bit anal about cleanliness, especially food production...I had to buy some yesterday...£8 ....... so thought sod this, get down to it....

Make my own boerewors as well

Yeah.. looked at all those sites octo....first project I think is make a cutter, fed up doing my wrist in trying to cut it...... made from some nice hardwood...and with a difference in blade attachment design. stainless is a possibility ... as long as the curing meat does not come into contact with it.

Their Biltong Maker is very good value, will save you the hassle of having to make one.

Do miss the being able to bbq when I want and not being able to plan for the weekend, due the very changeable weather.

But, after 13 years here, I should be used to it

The CADAC is available over here .. I have the super chef versiobn , BBQ & roast with it in all weathers .. it runs off a big calor propane bottle , has quick release gas connectors so I can put it on the external propane point on my caravan so we can take it on hols

Why the " not to touch the sides of stainless ) just so long as it is free hanging when you start the transformation it should be OK .
You could even make a second insulated skin so you keep the heat correct if you use thin sheet stainless .. you can clean it easily enough and unlike wood , MDF or chip board it does not contain any resins/ glues or preservatives that can taint the biltong .
You could also double it up as a decent smoker if you felt like it.

That would do.....enough to make a drier 400 square x 600 deep and 3/4mm thick,as the basic dimensions....
