What was behind the cardboard?
Arrgh twas a long time ago....
Basically it was bloody freezing that winter, no insulation or nothing.
So I put my propane heater under the bench, surrounded 3/4 of the bench with card and was able to sit in the warm gap.
Then in the spring I was given a load of roof insulation. Fitted that.
Then come winter I remembered that I had a spare convector heater at home, and plugged that in, as I dont pay for electrickery and was sorted.
But hell the first winter in my workshop was truly horrendous.
even the bottle of ribena froze solid one morning.
Last winter I was fine even almost cosy.

use 4 bolts scarecrow two might not hold!

a nother way is set a peice of box in concrete & the corresponding smaller size welded to the base of the object sitting on the floor to give rigidity/portability,if u need to secure it further then use location pins or bolts screwing into threaded inserts that are also grouted in. i have several of these around the workshop & yard.

Tv is just for a bit of company really,Otherwise I would probably start talking to myself. Now and again my ears pick up something interesting and I stop and watch for a few minutes, Very good telly, It's a 20+ year old Ferguson and picks up a great picture just on the original wire loop aerial.

P.S. just thought, Will it still work after the digital switch over.

'fraid not you might struggle to find a digibox if it does not have a scart socket.

Thanks Robotstar5 ,Definitely no scart socket,Looks like it will have to retire just like me.Can't see myself bothering to find a workable replacement. Will just have to start having one sided conversations with myself!

I just have a radio/mp3 player as a bit of background noise in the workshop

There are still some set top boxes supplied with RF outputs. Might need to look around, but you'll find one. If it's a proper Ferguson and not the Thomson/Ferguson crap, I'd keep it as long as you can.

Most digi-boxes have a co-axial pass through you can plug into the telly and tune the telly to something like channel 36 then use the digi-box remote. You will need a better aerial though, they usually need line of sight communication with the transmitter.

The loop is different to a RF output. The loop merely allows the signal to pass through to other equipment. It doesn't actually convert the video signal from the box into a RF signal, however, so a box specifically with RF output specified is required.

Regarding the line of sight thing, whomever told you that is wrong. Also, there's likely no need to change aerials, if anything half decent is already in use. Unless he has a seriously weak signal, (which would be easily discernible from the analogue transmissions), then likely no change is required. That's also not taking into account the fact that the output signal strength will be increased on the digital signal once the switchover takes place on his particular transmitter, (if it hasn't switched already), so even a weak signal now could be a nonexistent consideration later down the line.

Probably will need an aerial, the wire loop is normally fixed to back of the TV. Just ignore all the hype about digital antennas, there's no such thing!

Ah, I overlooked the loop aerial bit. I'd agree on the digital specific aerial bit. It's the same as it's always been on the aerial front. Specific types and designs have different characteristics, but all should work fine. Only thing worth noting is to use a wideband instead of a band specific aerial.
