'scratch start', button operated torch?

Are there such torches available? Im not talking about HF, I would like a button on the torch to activate the scratch start, purely so I can realease it and switch it off before removing the torch away from the workpiece. Also with the possibility of wiring a gas solenoid, activated by the button.

I was thinking more on the lines of wanting a button so I can kill the arc at the end of a run, rather than flicking the torch. Whilst welding a bracket inside a bke frame today, part of the frame obstructed me from pulling the torch away, resulting with a great arc show

Also I would then consider using the button circuit to activate a gas solenoid.

There is BUT it is on the el'cheepo Giant Tig welders. I have the Giant 200A DC Tig and that is HF Start ( on the button ) and stop obviously.

Hmm. I have a Lincoln scratch start inverter with a connector for a footpedal, which works exactly as you want. But you can't have it, sorry.

But that makes me think - if you were inclined you could make/fit a remote switch via the current control knob/circuitry to turn the power off. It's that or you kick the switch on the wall socket.

When I got my scratch start TIG, I had no info on using it. Not knowing any better, I put a spare micro switch on the torch and used my little finger. Worked fine. The gas was operated by a valve on the torch, which gives manual slope down. Bit fiddly.

How did you wire the switch in, Kemppi? which circuit were you switching?

Like I said, there was no info with it. The tame welder of the sales company (a big steel stockholder I used a lot) ran me through the knobs and connections. On the front panel was a socket with loose plug supplied. The guy said it started the welder when the TIG switch was on (as opposed to stick) So it would have worked for a foot pedal, something which they did not mention. The unit was a pretty basic Telwin 160amp inverter and the gas connection was part of the torch plug, so not through the welder casing.
