gas bottle log burner

hi all, new to this forum so here goes,
going to make a log burning stove to sit on my decking at the bottom of the garden.
my question (although stupid)is i have a gas bottle and have removed the fitting at the top to let gas/vapour escape and have filled with water, is this enough if i leave it full of water for a couple of days before getting plasma out and cutting a door in it?
having never cut into one of thse just looking for advice/safety so as not to do any unnessesary damage (to myself)
any advice would be grateful

Dont cut it with a plasma or gas torch use a grinder at least for the first few cuts other than that you'll be ok. Funnily enough I was making a log burner from a gas bottle this afternoon.

is it the vapour that causes problems?

I have made a few gas bottle burners now and my procedure is,Remove valve and fill with water over-night then empty when needed,Then rig up the plasma ready to go, finally just before cutting I put an air line into the bottle reaching almost to the bottom and purge with 50 PSI air for a couple of minutes,then start cutting straight away,Never had a problem.No signs whatsoever of residual gas,Don't let the gas smell fool you,it's an additive put into the gas that seems to be very difficult to get rid of,

If you use a plasma or gas axe your blowing a fuel rich gas into the bottle which can ignite.

There was a post on brit chopper a while ago with a pic of Chris Irelands (Desperate Dan) burnt face after he got out of hospital when he blew up a gas bottle cutting it with a plasma torch.

You might get away with it but in this instance i've seen the evidence of what can happen and I wouldn't chance it. I've cut loads up with a grinder and never had any trouble just filling them with water first.

First one I decided to use as a log burner was a pig!

Couldn't get the valve out, so raided the scrap bin for an old propane reg, and filled it with water backwards. Releasing the hose every now and then to let the gas pressure out. Following this, I then took the battery drill out and made around 45 holes in various places where parts were to be installed.

Haven't had a problem so far, but then its not finished!
