Ally can Baler (Hydraulic)

Seeing the amount of ally and steel cans we keep putting out for the recycling made me wonder if its worthwhile building some form of Hydraulic Bulk Can Crusher similar to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmgIRizmQKw&feature=related

Squashing Cans either ally or steel into say 50kg bales would be ideal to load up and take to the scrappy ideally one which recycles cans and not one thats going to pay silly prices for your efforts.

Current prices for baled and densified ally cans is around £920 - £960 per tonne which after collecting for a good year or so whould do nicely to add towards the summer hols

I was even thinking of asking my neigbours for their cans the more the merrier

So whats the best way to make one of these, ideally for about a 50kg bale which is light enough to be able to lift without too much effort, has anyone made similar???

Your neighbours might not be interested in the hassle unless there's something in it for them.

I'm starting collecting glass to crush for blasting, offering 5p per kilo, money to be put into a lottery syndicate.

Round our way cans and glass all get put in the same kerbside box for collection by the council.

I wouldn't care who took it (council or neighbour) so long as they left everything as tidy as I did.

Pretty much the whole street puts the boxes out the night before so you could just go round and help yourself (providing permission was granted of course)

made £223 last year from tin cans whole family saves them.
dont bother crushing them.
£876 from ally cans but got deal with my kids that they pick them up when they see them and get their mates to save them and they get 20% of what i get.

not far from sheffield rtb we usually get loads of glass if you can get it i can save it free for you.

Thats a fair amount and worth doing, The reason i wanted to crush them was because of space, its better to stack a small 50kg cube (and transport) than to have bags of tins everywhere.

I could get some plastic crates and tell negbours that i'll collect on a sat morning, that way it'll be seperate from the normal council collections.

What would the neghbours get out of it?? Like rtbcomp says i could add them to a lottery syndicate and do buy a 100 lottery tickets for every tonne collected with all the neigbours who allow a collection to be made to be in the sydicate, That will make it worthwhile

That's a great system, believe or not the taxman would be interested too

I wouldn't bother baling them, unless the scrappy knows you he would like to see what he's getting. For all he knows there could be a brick hidden in the middle of a bale.

one bloke knocked and said can you weld this socket onto this bar for me so i asked whats it for, its so my mate can put it in his cordless drill to put the legs down on his caravan, i told him i would get it done for him.

needless to say it didnt get done, had it been for the neighbour himself i might have done it but when someone just takes it for granted you will do what ever they ask that annoys me

ive been asked to spray a car a mate said he was skint can i spray his car , then he said he would sell it and get a better one and get more for it at my expense my answer was il spray your car when ive done mine whens that he said. when ive got time . goodwill pays no bill . u cant spend a pocketfull of thank u verry muches down at the supermarket

The brother-in-law has a small can crusher bolted to the shed outside his back door and a letter-box in the shed wall next to it.
Cans get put on the end of the bench, next time he goes out they get crushed and posted into his collection bucket.
He gets useful cash from weighing them in

They received a lot of negative reviews. My Dad had one and it was pretty flimsy. I'd be inclined to make my own, and make it strong enough to crush steel cans.
