Was impressed with Lancaster insurance £190 full comp for my 110

''spitting feathers'' for gods sake dont cancel it mid term with this lot, I had MAJOR aggro with them, after cancelling they still took 3 months worth of DD from my B/A

Then they tried to get 'time on cover' money from me as they said they had not got the certificates back

Then they got the debt collectors involved who were like a jack russell with a bone, just would not listen, or give in ringing up

In the end they gave after speaking to one of their managers after 8wks of constant grief and telling them there was no way on earth they would get another penny, and as we were in deadlock maybe it should be referred to the financial ombudsman, then it STOPPED dead

Only for about six weeks later for Lancaster to send out another letter offering a reduced settlement settlement for what I asked them, she told me what I already knew and I pointed out calmly and in words of one cylable even a idiot could understand that hell would freeze over and my body would be stiff in it before they got anything
I also stated if they continued then they would be counter sued for theft, as th yhad already taken the money they were asking for by dd without my knowledge, and as I only get 1/4ly statements I had no idea it was being taken.

since then nothing.

Not whinging or anything, just saying be carefull with em.

I put Field Service Engineer as that's what I am. Most of the quote forms have an option for Service Engineer (Non-mobile), I have no doubt whatsoever that if I opted for that and made a claim and they found out my real title that myself and the company would be bum-raped by Big Bubba for all eternity, without lube.
To be fair the company picks up the £1200 a year for the Connect, I only have to insure the TVR (£109 f/comp, protected NCD) and the bike - although they roger me bone-dry for that as well since I got knocked off and they had to write me a cheque for over 5 grand.

every time i go to insure everything they ask whats the value of it. the usual reply i give is market value in good condition , and what may that be they say i say i dont know u are the insurers u tell me when its time for a claim and its wrote off they say look in the admag and thats the going rate irespective of what u have spent on it

No point in putting more value on. As unless you have agreed value. As they will assess and value it based on current condition and market value

The online comparison outfits are also starting to get more expensive....comparethe meerkat is dearer than moneysupermarket
Mine is due after xmas and ive been getting quotes some are 100 quid cheaper than moneysypermarkets cheapest and 170 less than meerkat

And definitely don't put "lorry driver" either. I did and was relieved of an extra £40 for my trouble .

When I queried this, I was told that I'm a greater risk because if I've been driving a wagon all day, I'm more likely to be tired!! Aside from the fact that so-called intelligent people have decided that I can legally work for 15 hours a day with 10 of them spent driving, surely doing something all day, every day means I should be better at it than somebody who does it for ten or so minutes a day

As an aside, we've just gotten into abnormal loads and I've been given the keys, after completing the required courses, to a brand new 8-wheeled rigid lorry with a 60 ton Hiab hydraulic crane. Some days I spend more time crane driving than lorry driving so can I change my job title to get my premium down?

Post codes significantly affect insurance and they are re-assessed anually, so what might be low risk one year may not be the next ! A friend of mine ran a small insurance company for about 10 years, commercial mainly but some motor. He sold the company about 6 years ago and retired on the proceeds at 49 but thats another story. He told me that motor premiums are mainly determined by what the broker can get away with, and that can depend on how he feels when he gets up in the morning !
Larger companies will often buy business one year, by offering below market prices to new customers, the following year they will just ramp it up, knowing that a good percentage of those new customers will just go along with it. It's all a game and we are the pawns.
Thye would have us believe that the competition is cut throat, no money in it, blah, blah. Funny how you never see a poor insurance company or broker then ?! Look at the buildings they have !

They seem to pick numbers out of the air. Renewals, maybe they try and sneak in an increase knowing some people paying by DD won't notice.

I've never had a modern policy and don't intend to, only 'classic' ones. Current car is £57 a year comp, 5.7 litre Mustang was £157 in London. Normal policies are daft money. Guess the compensation/claims/solicitors cycle ramps costs up a whole lot.

We had something similar with our Connect: it was insured for three people, one of whom has never driven it. So when the renewal came up I suggested we might take him off the poilcy to save money. Certainly, they said, that'll be a £25 fee to change. Er, WTF? This is the start of a new year.
Anyway the girl checked and discovered it was cheaper to leave the third guy on than to remove him... on the basis that the risk is spread amongst more drivers. Like you, I suggested that the guy who has driven it the most miles (me) will be more familiar with the vehicle and less likely to have an accident. Well, apparently not.
OK then, I suggested, let's put everyone in the company on the policy and it'll get cheaper still. The response? It doesn't work like that...

Anyway as a guide this yrs quotes for K reg disco 2.5tdi ran from 250 to 10,000 quid, just scroll down to the bottom of the list on comparison websites for the best laugh of your life....

Can this not be insured as a classic car now? My P reg 90 County has just scraped through the 15 year barrier and was under £150 to insure fully comp with 4 drivers and no milage restrictions

To be honest i was just amazed at almost double the cost of my existing insurance to what they wanted to charge me next year, By comparing with others i managed to find one which is even £5 cheaper than what i'm paying now

It really does pay to get a new quote every year.

Insurance companies are cutting their own throat, If premiums wasn't so high the amount of un-insured drivers would be far less, Plus they should make all the compensation fee's and commissions illegal thus bringing premiums down more.

I wonder if an insurer would come out with an insurance which just covers the driver and instead of having named drivers, just have named vechicles (upto an agreed value) Not only would that be cheaper for the driver but imagine the millions of people which would leave their own insurance to join up.

One thing to watch with classic car insurance is that you don't accrue a no-claims discount, so you may end up paying top whack if you revert to a "normal" car. I think you can go for 12 months without a policy and keep your NCB.
